What does a real estate appraiser assistant do?

A real estate appraiser assistant provides administrative support to a real estate appraiser or a real estate appraiser’s office. Typically, your duties as an assistant are market research and information gathering to help the appraiser make a proper estimate on the value of a commercial or residential building a client wants to sell. Using internet searches and requesting property and home sale records from municipal and county departments, you collect relevant data and develop an initial appraisal for your boss based on comparable sales in a neighborhood or district. You may have other administrative responsibilities, such as filing paperwork, scheduling meetings and inspections with clients, and taking notes.

What does a real estate appraiser assistant do?

A Real Estate Appraiser Assistant supports licensed appraisers by gathering property data, conducting research on comparable properties, and helping prepare appraisal reports. They often visit properties to take photos, measure, and document relevant details under supervision. While they do not typically make final value determinations, their work is essential for ensuring accurate and thorough appraisals. Assistants also help with administrative tasks, record-keeping, and maintaining compliance with appraisal standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real estate appraiser assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Real Estate Appraiser Assistant, you need a solid understanding of real estate principles, attention to detail, and preferably some coursework or experience in property valuation. Familiarity with appraisal software, MLS databases, and spreadsheet tools is typically required, and some states may require formal registration or training. Strong organizational skills, communication abilities, and analytical thinking help you efficiently support appraisers and interact with clients. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate property assessments, smooth workflow, and compliance with legal standards in the appraisal process.

What are some common challenges faced by real estate appraiser assistants, and how can they be managed?

Real Estate Appraiser Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring the accuracy of property data. Balancing field inspections with office work can be demanding, especially during busy market periods. Effective organization, clear communication with appraisers and clients, and attention to detail are essential for overcoming these challenges. Developing strong time management skills and becoming proficient with appraisal software can also help assistants succeed in this supportive role.

Are you an obsessively detailed typist who works best when you’re in total control of your output and paycheck? Do you know real estate records inside and out and pride yourself on producing flawless, audit-ready work?

Profirst, Inc. is seeking a sharp, self-motivated Independent Real Estate Appraisal Assistant (1099) to power our valuation pipeline. In this contract role, you won't just be entering data—you'll turn raw property records, appraiser notes, and MLS data into polished, client-ready reports.

If you thrive in an independent, production-driven environment and love the behind-the-scenes real estate process, let's talk.

  • Build Precision Reports: Transform rough notes, field data, and audio files into clear, structured real estate appraisal reports using industry software (TOTAL by a la mode, ACI, or SFREP).
  • Hunt Down Property Data: Pull tax records, deeds, zoning info, and MLS histories to assemble comprehensive background packages for every assignment.
  • Master Quality Control: Act as the final line of defense—proofreading forms, double-checking parcel IDs, and verifying required disclosures before client delivery.
  • Keep the Engine Running: Log incoming orders, track status updates, and ensure seamless delivery schedules for our clients.

What Brings You to the Top of the Stack

  • Real Estate Mindset: You already speak the language. You know what an MLS listing looks like and understand basic real estate terminology.
  • Software Savvy: Direct experience with real estate appraisal software (TOTAL/a la mode or ACI) is a required. High proficiency in MS Excel and Word is required.
  • Speed & Accuracy: You comfortably type 50+ WPM without sacrificing precision. Addresses and numbers are always accurate on your watch.
  • Eagle Eye: You naturally spot formatting mistakes, missing checkboxes, or mismatched numbers before anyone else does.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible hybrid structure based out of Cockeysville, MD.
  • A supportive, streamlined team environment where your work directly impacts daily operations.
  • Consistent, engaging workflow with clear expectations and room to grow your real estate knowledge.
  • Uncapped / Speed-Based Potential: 1099 Independent Contractor / Per-Report Pay
