Job Summary
Join the 2026 El Paso County Fair Team as a County Fair Assistant (Seasonal)!
United We Celebrate at the El Paso County Fair, and we're looking for enthusiastic, friendly, and dependable individuals to help bring the experience to life. As a County Fair Assistant (Seasonal), you will play a key role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all guests.
In this role, you will be at the center of the action. You will greet visitors, provide information about events and activities, manage entry and re-entry, issue tickets, collect payments, and help keep daily operations running smoothly. You will also provide transportation for guests via the Courtesy Cart, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and welcoming experience for those needing assistance. If you enjoy working with people, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take pride in delivering great service, this is a strong fit.
We are looking for team members who:

This position is based out of the El Paso County Fair and Event Center in Calhan, CO.
Hiring Rate: $16.50 - $18.50 hourly
This position is located at the Fairgrounds in Calhan and will run for 10 days from July 11th to July 18th. The anticipated work schedule is between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. each day. A training session will be held on July 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This position performs administrative and customer service-based duties for the El Paso County Fair, including collecting payments, issuing tickets, stamping visitors for re-entry, monitoring visitor entry, and responding to visitor requests for information. Employment is subject to the terms, conditions, and policies detailed in the Personnel Policies Manual (PPM). This position requires regular in-person presence as an essential job function.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service to fair customers and assists County employees, board members, and volunteers.
  • Works outside and at ticket/entry booths, including collecting payments, issuing tickets, stamping visitors for re-entry, and monitoring visitor entry.
  • Shares County Fair information with customers and responds to visitor requests.
  • Follows established cash-handling procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Supervision Exercised: This classification does not have supervisory authority and requires no supervision or direction of others.
Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision. This classification normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. Frequent direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor is expected.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must possess a positive and friendly attitude. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must be a flexible team player with the ability to work successfully in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work long hours, evenings, and weekends for the duration of the fair and training.
  • Ability to operate point of sale (POS) system/cash register, including computers, electronic scanners, or related equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, other County personnel, and the public.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Cash handling experience
Preferred Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation and drug screen.

Work Conditions
Duties are performed in a ticket booth and outdoors, sometimes in high-volume and stressful situations. May be required to work long hours, evenings, and weekends. This is a temporary position typically not to exceed five months.
