Ran Engineer information

How much do RAN engineers make?

RAN (Radio Access Network) engineers typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in LTE or 5G may earn higher salaries, often supplemented by overtime or on-call pay.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, and aerospace engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles. High-paying engineering positions often require advanced degrees, certifications, and work in high-demand industries or companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Ran Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a RAN Engineer, you need a deep understanding of radio access network technologies, RF engineering principles, and telecommunications systems, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with network planning tools (such as Atoll), drive test equipment, and relevant certifications like CCNA or vendor-specific credentials (e.g., Ericsson, Huawei) are highly valued. Strong analytical skills, effective problem-solving, and clear communication are vital for collaborating across teams and addressing complex network issues. These competencies ensure optimal network performance, efficient troubleshooting, and successful coordination in fast-paced telecom environments.

What is a RAN Engineer job?

A RAN (Radio Access Network) Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing wireless communication networks. They ensure network performance, troubleshoot issues, and enhance coverage for mobile users. Their work involves configuring base stations, analyzing KPIs, and collaborating with other teams to improve connectivity. RAN Engineers play a crucial role in maintaining and upgrading mobile networks, including 4G and 5G technologies.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced software engineers, especially those in senior or lead roles at major tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Other engineering roles, such as petroleum or aerospace engineers in senior positions, may also reach this level with extensive experience and specialized skills.

What are some common challenges faced by RAN Engineers, and how do they impact daily work?

RAN Engineers often deal with the challenge of optimizing network coverage and capacity in densely populated or challenging geographic areas, which requires in-depth analysis and continuous tuning of network parameters. Interference management and rapid troubleshooting of network outages are also frequent tasks that demand quick decision-making and technical agility. These challenges make the role dynamic and rewarding, with each day presenting new opportunities to solve complex issues and improve user experience. Being part of a collaborative team, you’ll frequently coordinate with field engineers, network planners, and operations support, making strong communication and teamwork skills essential.

What is the role of a RAN engineer?

A RAN (Radio Access Network) engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, maintaining, and optimizing wireless network infrastructure, including base stations and cell towers. They troubleshoot network issues, perform site surveys, and work with network equipment and software to ensure reliable mobile connectivity.

Job description

SR. RAN SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARLINK MOBILE)

SpaceX is developing a satellite-to-mobile network to deliver ubiquitous cellular connectivity worldwide through the Starlink constellation. We are partnering with mobile network operators globally to provide direct-to-cell service, extending coverage to billions of existing cellular devices.

Starlink Mobile was designed to connect the unconnected, and this new product will greatly expand that mission by extending coverage to billions of existing cellular devices. Applications include connecting hikers in national parks, emergency responders, rural communities, remote sensors, and people in emergency situations.

As a Sr. Software RAN Engineer on the Starlink Mobile program, you will lead the validation and optimization of the 4G/5G RAN software protocol stack. This role requires strong software engineering skills to build scalable test automation frameworks and work directly with other software developers to triage and resolve complex 4G/5G protocol stack software issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of CI/CD test automation frameworks for eNB/gNB feature validation, including functional, performance, interoperability, and regression testing
  • Analyze UE and eNB/gNB logs to debug and root-cause RAN issues, and collaborate with developers to resolves issues and drive feature improvements
  • Build software tools and data pipelines to analyze RAN performance and optimize eNB/gNB parameters to improve network KPIs
  • Manage and prioritize network issues while collaborating closely with development teams to drive resolution
  • Troubleshoot and maintain RAN lab infrastructure in collaboration with partner teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline
  • 5+ years of Python/C/C++ coding experience
  • 5+ years of experience developing, executing, and managing automated LTE/5G-NR test cases (including test planning and results tracking)
  • Experience with user equipment (UE) log analysis and associated software tools (QXDM/XCAL)
  • Experience developing test automation frameworks or CI/CD pipelines

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • In-depth knowledge of 3GPP specifications and R17+ RAN features
  • Strong understanding of LTE and 5G-NR protocols with hands-on experience resolving software issues at the PHY, MAC, and RRC layers
  • Experience supporting products through the full release cycle including commercial deployment
  • Strong skills in debugging and performance optimization; exceptional analytical skills and engineering fundamentals

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range: $165,000 - $230,000
