Job description

The City of Rawlins is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list of persons wishing to be considered for an entry-level Engineer position with the Rawlins Fire Department.

Position Title: Firefighter
Salary Information: $3,397 - $4,620 per month or $47,944 per year

Physical and oral interview testing will be conducted on August 20th at the Rawlins Fire Department Training Center located at 501 1/2 E. State Street, Rawlins, Wyoming beginning at 1300 hours on August 20th 2026 . A list of successful applicants will be considered for employment with the Rawlins Fire Department. Post-offer preยญemployment physical and drug test required.

Department Overview

The City of Rawlins is a community of 10,000 people located in south central Wyoming on Interstate 80. Rawlins offers numerous recreational activities, premium hunting, fishing, and camping locations minutes from the city limits.

City/County/Area Information

4,800 square mile response area with over 12 copen pit coal mines, hundreds of oil wells, power plants, interstate highways, state highways, and railways.

Description of Work: Under supervision of the Fire Shift Captain or other assigned supervisor, responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls to protect life and property; drives and operates pumping engines; ladder trucks; tenders; rescue units and similar firefighting equipment.

Essential Duties: Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires in the protection of lives and property, including rescue, entry, ventilation, salvage work and EMS, drives and operates equipment, administers basic life support techniques, responds to Hazardous materials incidents, and numerous other calls for service; participates in training in a number of areas; operates a wide variety of firefighting equipment, and apparatus; while off duty responds to major emergency calls; participates in fire prevention and inspections; station; equipment; and facility maintenance; participates in continuing training and instruction programs by individual study of technical matter and attendance at scheduled drills and classes relating to firefighting techniques, first aid and related subjects. Answers inquiries by the public; conducts station tours; takes special assignments; performs related duties.

Minimum Qualification: High school diploma, or equivalent, is at least 18 years of age at the time of hiring. Be able to obtain a Wyoming Commercial Driver's License within 6 months, and Wyoming Emergency Medical Technician Basic and Wyoming Firefighter I within first year of employment. Residency within the 10 miles of Fire Station 1 (320 West Walnut) is required.
