Job description

Summary

We are representing a well-established and highly regarded General Contractor looking for Superintendents to join their growing team throughout the Greater Bay Area. This is a company that has built a strong reputation across a diverse portfolio of project types — and one that genuinely values and respects the field leaders who deliver their work.

This is not a company that treats Superintendents like a commodity. They invest in their people, pay market rate for the right talent, and offer the kind of long-term stability and project diversity that keeps experienced field leaders engaged and growing throughout their careers.

The ideal candidates are strategically located throughout the Bay Area — Santa Rosa, San Rafael, the North Bay, East Bay, or South Bay — and are comfortable traveling up to 1–2 hours to project sites across the region. Traveling Superintendents open to working throughout California are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Execution

  • Manage all daily field operations across a diverse range of project types from mobilization through final closeout and turnover
  • Develop and maintain project schedules including 3-week look-aheads and long-range milestone planning
  • Coordinate and sequence all subcontractor trades to maintain workflow and meet critical project milestones
  • Enforce plans, specifications, and quality standards across all active work fronts
  • Manage subcontractor foremen, self-perform crews, and daily field reporting

Subcontractor & Trade Management

  • Direct and hold subcontractor trade partners accountable to schedule, scope, quality, and safety
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and daily tailgate safety talks
  • Resolve field conflicts, RFI-driven scope questions, and coordination issues in real time
  • Monitor subcontractor manpower levels and escalate resource deficiencies proactively

Quality & Safety

  • Enforce a strong jobsite safety culture in full compliance with Cal/OSHA and project-specific safety plans
  • Conduct regular safety walks, toolbox talks, and incident documentation
  • Ensure all work meets design intent, quality standards, and local building department requirements
  • Coordinate inspections and manage non-conformance items promptly and thoroughly

Client & Team Communication

  • Serve as the primary field point of contact for the Project Manager, owner representatives, and design team
  • Attend and contribute to OAC meetings, project updates, and coordination sessions
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication between field teams and the project office
  • Support Project Engineers and Assistant Superintendents in day-to-day field operations

Closeout & Turnover

  • Drive punch list completion and coordinate final inspections with the building department and owner
  • Ensure complete and timely project closeout including as-builts, warranties, and final walk-throughs
  • Deliver a clean, complete, and fully documented turnover package to the owner

Project Experience Required

  • Ground-Up Multifamily Residential — Public, Private & Luxury
  • Mixed-Use Retail & Commercial Construction
  • K–12 & Higher Education Facilities
  • Medical Office Buildings & Healthcare Construction
  • Grocery & Retail (Safeway and similar anchor tenants)
  • Prevailing Wage & Publicly Funded Projects
  • Projects ranging from $10M – $100M+

Qualifications

  • 8–20+ years of Superintendent experience across multifamily and commercial construction
  • Diverse project type experience strongly preferred — this company builds across multiple verticals and values versatility
  • Strong knowledge of wood frame, podium, and mixed-use construction methods and sequencing
  • Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements and public project compliance
  • Comfortable traveling up to 1–2 hours to project sites throughout the Bay Area
  • Traveling Superintendents open to working throughout California also encouraged to apply
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong leadership, communication, and subcontractor management skills
  • OSHA 30 certified required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management preferred; equivalent field experience strongly considered

Compensation & Benefits

  • Market-rate base salary determined by individual qualifications and experience — no arbitrary salary caps
  • Prevailing wage projects with corresponding wage and benefit package where applicable
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid holidays and PTO
  • A company culture that respects and values its field leaders — you will not be treated like a number here
  • Long-term project pipeline across a diverse range of project types and markets throughout the Bay Area
