The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and piping construction projects from preconstruction through completion. This role manages all aspects of project execution including budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and coordination with field operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Projects often involve complex commercial mechanical systems, including central plants, hydronic systems, and large-scale HVAC installations. The ideal candidate has experience working in a design-build environment and can effectively manage projects that require strong coordination, technical expertise, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout.
  • Oversee HVAC, plumbing, and piping scopes including central plants, chillers, boilers, and air distribution systems.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost tracking, and financial forecasts.
  • Create and manage project schedules, ensuring alignment with overall construction timelines.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure proper scope execution.
  • Review and manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contracts.
  • Collaborate with Superintendents and field teams to ensure productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
  • Support procurement of mechanical equipment and materials, including long-lead items.
  • Participate in design-build and preconstruction efforts, including constructability reviews and conceptual budgeting.
  • Maintain communication with clients, engineers, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify project risks and implement solutions to maintain schedule, budget, and performance goals.
  • Oversee commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities.

Qualifications
  • 5–10+ years of experience as a Project Manager in mechanical or HVAC construction.
  • Strong experience managing projects involving HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing installations.
  • Experience working for a mechanical contractor or MEP-focused general contractor.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from start to finish (full lifecycle).
  • Strong understanding of construction processes including budgeting, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on large-scale commercial, healthcare, institutional, or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery methods, prefabrication, and BIM/VDC coordination.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
