Wireless communications company with advanced technology to address the nation’s first

responder interoperability crisis seeks experienced radio and wireless technicians and/or

systems engineers to design and deploy networks.


Description:

Radio/IP Network System Field Technicians are responsible for the implementation, deployment and

testing of Mutualink’s Interoperable Multimedia System with successful integration of public safety radio

communications networks, video and telephone systems. The ideal candidate will also have experience

and a demonstrated track record of customer-facing work. The position requires domestic and possibly

international travel. Experience with racking and cabling equipment in a data center environment, along

with cable management skills.


Skills/Qualifications:

Radio

  • Two years+ experience working with public safety radio communication systems

  • Understanding of radio frequency theory, signal propagation, and antenna types (N-Type, BNC, SMA). Working knowledge of public safety two-way radio systems (including conventional, SmartNet/SmartZone, EDACS, and LTR-Net) and dispatch console systems

  • Working knowledge on how radios work and willingness to learn about portable, base station radios and Console integration.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a multimeter to test voltage, continuity, and pin-outs on radio cables.

  • Familiarity with grounding practices and tower site safety. (Microwave or Multiplexer experience is a significant plus).


IP Network

  • Core Networking: Understanding of the OSI Model (Layers 1-3), IP addressing, subnetting, and VLANs.

  • Tunneling & Security: Foundational knowledge of VPNs and IPSEC tunneling; willingness to learn advanced protocols (MPLS, Multicasting, PIM Sparse Mode, and QoS).

  • OS Knowledge: Working knowledge of Linux/Unix command line and Windows Server environments.

  • Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Security+, or Cisco CCNA/CCST is a strong plus.


Video

  • Experience and working knowledge or ability and willingness to learn Video (Digital Video Systems, Video Compression Technology, FFMPEG, Transcoding)

  • Hardware Installation: Experience configuring IP cameras (Axis, Verkada, etc.) and understanding various video inputs (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort).

  • Experience streaming HD video through VLC or other media players over the internet.

  • Streaming Protocols: Ability to learn and troubleshoot Video Compression (FFMPEG), Transcoding, and the RTSP protocol.

  • Physical Connectivity: Experience with video cabling and converters to integrate legacy analog systems into digital networks.

General

  • Education: 4-year college degree preferred. Best fit disciplines: Network Engineering,Telecommunications, or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET).

  • Communication: Must be "customer-facing" ready—able to explain technical issues clearly to first responders and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Adaptability: A "Self-Starter" mindset; must be able to perform basic troubleshooting independently before escalating to senior engineering.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel 75%+ of the time.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as the "boots on the ground" contact for remote Sales, Support, and Engineering teams.

Physical and Field Operations

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (racking UPS units, servers, and batteries).

  • Tool Proficiency: Competent in using hand and power tools (drills, crimpers, wire strippers, Digital Volt Meter) for racking equipment and cable management.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders, and operate in cramped data center or "radio shack" environments.

  • Logistics: Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record and a valid Passport for potential international travel.

  • Documentation: Ability to capture high-quality "As-Built" site photos and provide clear, written site visit reports (SVRs).
