Job description

R. J. Corman Railroad serves all seven North American major railroads, many regional and short line railroads and dozens of industries having rail. Services include owning and operating nineteen short lines, providing emergency rail services associated with derailments and natural disasters, switching, track construction, track material distribution, signal design/construction, building switching locomotives and operating a dinner train.
R.J. Corman Railroad Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position for a Night shift (12hr) Railroad Police Officer. This position performs policing and securing company properties in various company locations from 6:00 PM-6:00 AM. Must live within 45 minutes of Nicholasville Corporate Office.
Responsibilities:
  • Deterring crime through high visibility policing of corporate office and properties during and after normal business hours.
  • Deterring crime through high visibility policing of Central Kentucky Line.
  • Deterring crime through high visibility policing of other RJ Corman locations as needed.
  • Provide policing during all events held at RJ Corman Railroad Properties.
  • Conduct initial investigations and gather evidence at all RJ Corman Railroad Locations.
  • Ability to travel as needed to secure RJC properties and equipment.
  • Follow rules, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Due to the unusual work environment applicates must be able to work rotating shifts day and night in all types of weather.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma and/or equivalent related experience required.
  • Must have prior Law Enforcement Experience. (POP's Certified)
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge and skills of law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Conflict resolutions and problem-solving skills.
  • Responsibility, dependability, honesty, and integrity.
  • Must work nights, overtime, holidays, and weekends as required, and be willing to travel.
  • Effectively deals with individuals under various circumstances to resolve disputes and neutralize hostilities, mediates disputes; assists individuals who are sick and need assistance, administers first aid when necessary.
  • Maintains proficiency and safely operates police equipment, including vehicles, computers, and weapons, including a firearm.
  • Communicates verbally in person and by radio; presents testimony and evidence in administrative, civil, and criminal proceedings; maintains open line of communications with law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, internal and external partners, as necessary or when directed.
  • Records information and prepares a variety of detailed reports with clearly organized thoughts and conclusion
