What is a quoting manager?

A Quoting Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the process of preparing and delivering price quotes to customers or clients, typically in industries such as manufacturing, construction, or services. They analyze project requirements, costs, and timelines to generate accurate quotations that meet both client expectations and company profitability goals. Quoting Managers often collaborate with sales, technical, and procurement teams to gather necessary information and ensure quotes are competitive and compliant with company policies. They also manage quote follow-ups and may negotiate terms with customers. Their role is crucial in securing new business and maintaining positive client relationships.

How does a quoting manager typically collaborate with sales and engineering teams to ensure accurate and competitive proposals?

A Quoting Manager works closely with both sales and engineering teams to gather all necessary technical specifications, customer requirements, and pricing details for each quote. They facilitate communication between departments to ensure proposals are not only competitive but also feasible from a production and delivery standpoint. This collaborative approach helps minimize errors, align expectations, and deliver tailored solutions that meet client needs. Regular meetings, shared documentation, and cross-departmental reviews are common practices to maintain accuracy and consistency throughout the quoting process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quoting manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quoting Manager, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with quoting and CRM software, Excel, and sometimes ERP systems is typically required, along with experience in pricing strategy. Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills help you manage client relationships and coordinate with internal teams. These abilities are crucial for generating accurate quotes, maintaining client satisfaction, and ensuring profitability for the business.

Job description

About the jobPosition Summary

TriTech America is a certified Rockwell Automation system integrator delivering turnkey control and automation solutions to manufacturers across the United States. We are expanding into Indianapolis and are looking for a driven, technically astute sales professional to build this territory from the ground up. This is a greenfield opportunity for a high performer who wants ownership over their results and the ability to earn uncapped commission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect, qualify, and develop new customer relationships within the assigned territory
  • Identify capital projects, upgrades, and retrofit opportunities at manufacturing facilities
  • Lead the full sales cycle: discovery, site assessment, proposal development, negotiation, and close
  • Collaborate with TriTech engineering team to scope projects and develop accurate proposals
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and forecast in CRM; provide weekly updates to leadership
  • Represent TriTech at regional industry events, trade shows, and Rockwell Automation partner events
  • Achieve quarterly revenue milestones aligned to the $5M annual target ramp plan
Non-Negotiables
  • 5+ years B2B outside sales experience in industrial automation, controls, or engineered solutions
  • Proven record of new account development — not just growing existing accounts
  • Familiarity with the Rockwell/Allen-Bradley ecosystem (or comparable: Siemens, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff)
  • Technical aptitude to discuss PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, motion control at a basic-to-intermediate level
  • Experience calling on plant engineers, maintenance managers, operations directors, and capital project leads
  • Comfortable with project-based selling: scoping, quoting, managing multi-stakeholder decisions
Strong Differentiators
  • Experience at another system integrator, Rockwell distributor, or automation OEM
  • Existing relationships in target verticals (food & beverage, pharma, automotive, oil & gas, water/wastewater, mining)
  • Understanding of UL508A, or industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profibus)
  • Has personally sold projects from first call to signed contract without heavy engineering support
