Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager – Tool Install & Equipment Hookup (Semiconductor)

About the Role

Currie & Brown is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager to support a major semiconductor manufacturing expansion and tool‑installation program in San Jose, CA.

This role is centered on equipment hookup, tool installation, and complex construction packages within a high‑tech manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in cost management, estimating, commercial governance, forecasting, and subcontractor oversight for fast‑paced, technically demanding scopes of work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all construction cost activities from preconstruction through closeout
  • Prepare, validate, and maintain estimates, budgets, forecasts, and cost reports for tool‑install and equipment‑hookup scopes
  • Review and negotiate contractor proposals, change orders, progress billings, and subcontractor pricing
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, benchmarking, and cost analysis
  • Support procurement planning, bid evaluations, and contract administration
  • Monitor project expenditures, identify cost variances, and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Provide commercial insight to project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and client stakeholders
  • Support earned value analysis, reporting, and project controls integration
  • Participate in project meetings and present commercial recommendations to leadership
  • Ensure compliance with project controls standards, governance requirements, and client procedures


Requirements

  • Proven experience in quantity surveying, cost management, estimating, or commercial management for large‑scale technical construction projects
  • Background supporting semiconductor, cleanroom, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or mission‑critical environments strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of tool installation, equipment hookup, and high‑tech manufacturing systems
  • Demonstrated experience with forecasting, budgeting, change management, and cost reporting
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities and complex interfaces


Prefered Experience

  • Experience leading change orders through to agreement (including negotiation)
  • Responsibility for subcontract packages, including valuations and payments
  • Experience working as the sole QS on a project
  • Exposure to MEP-heavy or cleanroom / advanced manufacturing environments
  • Ownership of project cost reporting and presenting this to the client


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Professional certifications such as RICS, AACE, PMP, or similar are an advantage
