Job description

Quality Manager - Rotary Drilling Division
Location: Alachua, Florida, USA
Own the quality of a global product line - built in Alachua
At Sandvik, the surface drill rigs we assemble in Alachua work on mine sites across the globe - massive, complex, engineered-to-order machines where quality is the difference between reliability and costly downtime for our customers. We're looking for a hands-on Quality Manager to lead and elevate the quality function for our rotary blasthole drill assembly operation.
This is a high-visibility leadership role with real influence over product reliability, supplier partnerships, and customer satisfaction - at a site small enough that your decisions get made and implemented. At the same time, you can leverage the benefits a Fortune 100 Global Employer, with 41,000 employees worldwide.
What you'll do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of quality professionals - building capability, ownership, and engagement

  • Drive quality performance across incoming, in-process, and final inspection

  • Strengthen supplier quality through qualification, performance management, and corrective action

  • Lead structured problem-solving (8D, root cause analysis) to cut defects and cost of poor quality

  • Own compliance with ISO 9001 and Sandvik's Quality Management System

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to improve process capability and product performance

  • Monitor and act on key metrics - FPY, COPQ, supplier PPM, rework, and warranty trends

  • Uphold and advance quality standards across fabrication, welding, machining, and final assembly

The environment you'll thrive in
This is heavy, capital-equipment manufacturing - low-volume, high-complexity machines built around large structural weldments, heavy fabrication, machining, hydraulics, and electrical systems. The right person has run quality in a B2B industrial or heavy-equipment setting (mining, construction, off-highway, agricultural, rail, defense, or similar). If large weldments and build-to-order complexity are your comfort zone, you'll feel right at home.
What you'll bring
Must-haves
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or similar)

  • Quality leadership experience in heavy or capital equipment manufacturing - where fabrication, welding, and large structural weldments are core to the product (typically 8+ years in manufacturing quality, including 5+ years leading quality teams)

  • Hands-on knowledge of complex mechanical assemblies, structural weldments, hydraulics, and electrical systems

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving and deliver measurable improvements

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now and in the future

Nice-to-haves
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business

  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQM/OE)

  • Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt)

  • Working knowledge of welding standards (AWS/ASME)

Key skills
  • Data-driven decision-making (Excel, Power BI, or similar)
  • Root cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone)
  • Metrology and inspection systems
  • Welding-standards fluency (AWS/ASME)

Why join us
  • Visible impact - direct influence on the quality of a global product line

  • Build something - shape and grow a quality organization, your way

  • Real ownership - a site where decisions are made and executed, without corporate distance

  • Collaborative culture - cross-functional partners who want quality to win

  • Grow with us - development paths within a global engineering leader
