QC Scientist I

Location: Cincinnati, OH
Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour

Shift: Second shift after completion of first-shift training

Position Summary

We are seeking a QC Scientist I to join a pharmaceutical Quality Control Analytical Chemistry Laboratory in Cincinnati, OH. This position will perform routine analytical testing and documentation of residual active pharmaceutical ingredients and detergents in support of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with HPLC and Mass Spectrometry, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, highly regulated laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine chemical testing of residual swab samples using established analytical methods.

• Conduct validated residual analysis using HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, and TOC techniques.

• Identify and promptly report out-of-specification, unexpected, or non-routine analytical results.

• Perform instrument calibrations and verifications as required.

• Accurately document testing procedures, observations, calculations, and analytical results.

• Record and report analytical results in accordance with laboratory procedures and systems.

• Prepare test solutions, including diluents and mobile phases.

• Clean and maintain laboratory work areas and analytical instrumentation.

• Follow all applicable SOPs, cGMPs, GLPs, safety requirements, work instructions, and laboratory methods.

• Maintain required training and compliance status.

• Communicate analytical findings clearly and effectively with laboratory and cross-functional teams.

• Manage multiple assignments and prioritize workload to meet testing deadlines.

• Seek additional responsibilities and learning opportunities when primary testing assignments are completed.

• Participate in ongoing training and share technical knowledge with other team members.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a physical science, preferably Chemistry.

• 1–2 years of experience performing chemical testing using chromatographic techniques preferred.

• Working theoretical knowledge and practical experience with HPLC and Mass Spectrometry required.

• Understanding of basic analytical instrumentation and qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis.

• Awareness of pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to read and interpret technical procedures and applicable regulations.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a laboratory team.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in pharmaceutical QC or analytical chemistry laboratories.

• Hands-on HPLC testing experience.

• Mass Spectrometry experience.

• Knowledge of residual pharmaceutical and detergent analysis.

• Experience working within a GMP-regulated environment.

• Ability to apply mathematical concepts to laboratory testing, including reliability, variance, and correlation calculations.

• Demonstrated initiative and willingness to pursue additional technical training.

Schedule

• Training: First shift

• Regular Schedule: Second shift following successful completion of training

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch periodically or for extended periods.

• Lift, carry, and move materials weighing approximately 10–35 pounds.

• Perform repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements.

• Use laboratory equipment and computer systems for extended periods.

• Sit, reach, communicate, and work at a computer or laboratory workstation as required.

• Maintain sufficient visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical materials, and review computer displays.

Required PPE

Employees may be required to wear:

• Safety glasses

• Safety shoes

• Lab coat

• Latex or similar protective gloves

• Safety apron

• Organic respirator when required

Work Environment

This is a laboratory-based position supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with analytical instrumentation, chemical testing procedures, technical documentation, and strict quality and safety requirements.

Compensation

$25.00 per hour

Pay Details: $25.00 per hour
