Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE: An integral member of the Health Care Team responsible for giving and directing care to the residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:ย  In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a Combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization.

  1. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates total care for the residents.
  2. Gives direct total care to residents according to the residentsโ€™ needs and/or assigns these functions to appropriate personnel.
  3. Teaches and assists residents to reach their maximum attainable state of well-being.
  4. Performs and records therapeutic measures prescribed and delegated by medical authority, i.e. medications and treatment.
  5. Makes rounds with physicians and assists as needed.
  6. Continuously evaluates symptoms, reactions and progress of residents and observes, records and reports to appropriate person.
  7. Participates in intra- and inter-departmental activities designed for residents.
  8. Applies nursing theory and practice, administrative technique, knowledge of current research and teaching principles toward the goal of quality resident care and promotion of health practices.
  9. Organizes, administers and supervises the implementation of a written nursing care plan for each resident for whom he/she is responsible.
  10. Contributes pertinent data to the clinical nursing record about residentsโ€™ nursing care and progress.
  11. Directs entry of appropriate information into charts and reviews information after entry into computer.
  12. Stimulates independence in thinking and in decision-making.
  13. Recognizes the need for consultation and initiates the request to the Nurse Manager.
  14. Evaluates the nursing care given by all nursing personnel for whom he/she is responsible.
  15. Renders assistance to those engages in nursing research and the development of new patterns of nursing care.
  16. Assists in the educational program of any student who is receiving clinical experience under the nurseโ€™s guidance.
  17. All staff is always required to follow all safety regulations and precautions.
  18. Staff must ensure that their Department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
  19. Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager
  20. Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs.
  21. All staff must wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing Hazardous work i.e. working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
  22. All Staff are required to participate in the Oโ€™odham Centered Care - Managers/Supervisors will help staff in assisting in participating in Person Centered Care.
  23. Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
  24. Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of your organization.
  25. Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
  26. Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  27. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  28. Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
  29. Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
  30. Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.

OTHER:ย  Regular attendance in conformance with standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.ย  Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment

Due to the cyclical nature of the health care industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the facility.ย  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with all applicable rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the facility.ย  Employees who violate the rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:ย  Bachelorโ€™s Degree (B.S.) in Nursing from a four-year college or university; or Associate of Sciences (AS) degree in Nursing plus one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current RN license in the State of Arizona.ย ย  Must be active and in good standing.ย  CPR certification.
