JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

Assist Purchasing Manager in developing and maintaining a systematic program for purchasing fasteners for resale and supplies or other items as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Purchasing of fasteners for resale.
  • Compliance with established purchasing policies
  • Help establish and/or maintain proper replenishment levels of inventory.
  • Work with purchasing management to establish proper inventory levels.
  • Assist with mill direct purchases as needed and/or directed by Purchasing Manager.
  • Assist management in reviewing, writing, negotiating and awarding all stock & release contracts.
  • Responsible for releasing materials within the stock & release contracts.
  • Responsible for purchasing some or all non-inventory related items, such as packaging material, pallets, cleaning and paper products.
  • Collaborate with the receiving and warehouse manager to ensure materials that need to be returned to vendors are done so in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that purchasing documents are maintained in a systematic retrievable manner.
  • Communicate with sales and management regarding industry trends, new vendors, new products, etc...
  • Monitor freight issues; assign cost that relates directly to inventory.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of TFI software as it relates to purchasing and make recommendations to new software applications that may be beneficial.
  • Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers.
  • Works closely with receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrived
  • Traces delinquent arrivals from purchase orders.
  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with U.S. laws.
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

Travel is not normally required in this position but may be required on certain occasions.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to three years' previous purchasing experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • P21 software experience a plus
  • Fastener knowledge a plus.
