ROLE OVERVIEW

The Purchasing Associate provides foundational support for the procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment across our new site in Toronto, Canada. This entry-level role is designed for individuals at the early stages of their career who are looking to build experience in procurement, operations, and vendor coordination within a life sciences environment.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and Finance, the role ensures timely ordering, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to internal policies and compliance standards.

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Support daily purchasing activities, including placing orders, tracking shipments, and coordinating with vendors
  • Assist in resolving delivery issues, discrepancies, and returns in a timely manner
  • Review purchase requests to ensure alignment with approved supply and chemical lists
  • Maintain accurate vendor records and support onboarding of new suppliers in accordance with company processes
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of purchasing records to support audit and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with Finance to support purchase order creation, invoice processing, and reconciliation
  • Provide responsive and professional support to internal teams and resident companies
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies
  • Participate in training to build knowledge of procurement systems, tools, and best practices
  • Support additional administrative or operational tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience (co-op, internship, or entry-level role in procurement, operations, or administration)
  • Strong interest in procurement, supply chain, or laboratory operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); exposure to procurement or ERP systems is an asset (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach
