Responsibilities/Qualifications

Drees Homes, one of the largest privately-owned homebuilders in the nation, is looking for a Purchasing Coordinator in the Houston Division.  The Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for assisting in all areas of Purchasing/Estimating.  This position takes ownership of assigned projects and provides background, analysis, and summary of issues at hand and offer possible solutions. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Focus on assigned projects including issues with purchase orders and FPO's.
  • Assist Builders/Estimators in making sure PO's are accurate.
  • Research and confirm the requests are valid, ensure there isn't duplicity. 
  • Ability to analyze information, identifying discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Attend weekly starts meetings and FPO meetings and offer assistance as needed.
  • Work directly with Cost Analysis and Operations Manager on cost details/issues.
  • Aid in obtaining pricing from trade partners for new plans and options.
  • Permitting of homes and HOA approvals.
  • Ensure all vendor packets are updates and accurate.  Follow up with Trade partners as necessary.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong computer skills including Excel Spreadsheets
  • Experience with JD Edwards and On Screen Take Off is a plus
  • Analytical, detail-minded, team oriented and a good communicator (internal and external customers)
  • Ability to read bid sets, architectural plans as well as construct cost estimates preferred
  • A visual learner with strong organizational skills and autonomous mindset
  • Permitting experience and experience working with a Builder
  • Self-motivated to be able to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • A problem solver who can take ownership of projects

Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma is required; Bachelor's Degree or equivalent homebuilding experience is preferred
  • Experience working in a construction related capacity a real plus
  • Experience conducting bid analysis a plus
