Position Summary

The Senior Buyer & Inventory Analyst is responsible for managing purchasing activities, supplier relationships, inventory planning, and data analysis to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing costs. This role combines strategic procurement with inventory forecasting and operational reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with production, warehouse, engineering, and finance teams to ensure materials availability, improve inventory accuracy, and reduce supply chain risks.


The role will also be responsible for reviewing and maintaining the integrity of inventory and purchasing data within the ERP/database system, including identifying inaccuracies, correcting outdated information, and improving overall data quality.


Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Vendor Management
    • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, products, and services.
    • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
    • Evaluate vendor performance based on pricing, quality, delivery, and service.
    • Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and lead times.
    • Monitor market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Inventory Management & Analysis
    • Analyze inventory levels, usage trends, and production demand forecasts.
    • Maintain optimal stock levels to support manufacturing schedules while minimizing excess inventory.
    • Monitor inventory turnover, obsolete stock, and slow-moving materials.
    • Conduct cycle counts and support physical inventory processes.
    • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and stock variances.
    • Collaborate with production to align inventory with operational requirements.
  • Database & ERP Data Management
    • Review current inventory and purchasing database records for accuracy and completeness.
    • Identify and correct discrepancies in item master data, supplier information, pricing, units of measure, lead times, and inventory quantities.
    • Clean and maintain ERP/MRP system data to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
    • Standardize inventory descriptions, classifications, and procurement records.
    • Work with internal departments to ensure data integrity across purchasing, warehouse, and production systems.
    • Recommend process improvements to enhance database accuracy and inventory control.
  • Manufacturing & Operational Support
    • Coordinate material availability to support production schedules and customer delivery timelines.
    • Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and warehouse teams.
    • Manage MRP/ERP planning parameters including reorder points, safety stock, and lead times.
    • Assist with production planning and capacity-related material forecasting.
    • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Generate purchasing, inventory, and supplier performance reports.
    • Track KPIs including:
      • Inventory accuracy
      • Inventory turns
      • Supplier on-time delivery
      • Purchase price variance
      • Stockout frequency
      • Cost savings initiatives
    • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.
    • Recommend process improvements to improve efficiency and reduce waste.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory analysis.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing supply chains and production processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems. SYSPRO experience would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, retail, distribution, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory optimization tools.
