What is a pump?

In the context of jobs, 'pumps' typically refers to professionals who install, maintain, and repair various types of pumps used for moving liquids or gases. These workers may be called pump technicians, pump operators, or pump mechanics, and they are essential in industries such as water treatment, oil and gas, manufacturing, and construction. Their responsibilities include troubleshooting pump issues, performing routine inspections, and ensuring pumps operate efficiently and safely. They may also handle the installation of new pumping systems and provide recommendations for upgrades or replacements. Specialized knowledge of different pump types, such as centrifugal or positive displacement pumps, is often required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pump technician?

To thrive as a Pump Technician, you need strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and typically a high school diploma or technical certification in a related field. Familiarity with tools such as vibration analyzers, pump alignment systems, and knowledge of various pump types is crucial. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication help technicians excel in diagnosing issues and working with teams or clients. These skills ensure reliable pump operation, minimize downtime, and maintain safety in industrial environments.

What are some common challenges faced by pump operators and technicians in maintaining equipment reliability?

Pump operators and technicians often encounter challenges such as dealing with unexpected breakdowns, managing wear and tear on components, and ensuring proper alignment and lubrication. Regular preventive maintenance is crucial, but diagnosing issues quickly under tight deadlines can be stressful. Collaboration with maintenance teams and engineers is essential for troubleshooting, and staying updated on the latest technologies helps in minimizing downtime and extending equipment life.

Job description

Industrial Pump Assembly Technician

Mosherflo Pumps is hiring an experienced Industrial Pump Assembly Technician to join our team.

This is not an entry-level mechanical assembly position. We are specifically looking for someone who already knows centrifugal pumps and can come into the shop with a solid understanding of pump assembly, rotating equipment, tolerances, bearings, seals, shafts, impellers, and proper mechanical assembly practices.

Mosherflo manufactures ANSI process pumps, self-priming trash pumps, rotating assemblies, and other industrial pumping equipment.

What Youโ€™ll Do

* Assemble new centrifugal pumps, power ends, and rotating assemblies

* Build and work on ANSI process pumps and self-priming industrial pumps

* Verify components against job documentation, BOMs, and picking lists before assembly

* Inspect castings and machined surfaces for defects, damage, and cleanliness

* Verify impeller size, material, rotation, and trim prior to installation

* Install bearings, shafts, mechanical seals, packing, and other rotating components

* Check clearances, fits, shaft condition, and proper mechanical operation

* Follow established torque, assembly, and quality-control procedures

* Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify incorrect or damaged components before they become field problems

What Weโ€™re Looking For

DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE 3+ YEARS OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP ASSEMBLY EXPERIENCE.

Ideal backgrounds include industrial pump mechanic, pump technician, rotating-equipment mechanic, industrial millwright, pump rebuilder, or experienced pump-shop technician.

You should be comfortable working independently with industrial centrifugal pumps and understand how the individual components of a rotating assembly work together.

Position Details

Pay: $27.00โ€“$30.00 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:00 AMโ€“5:00 PM

Employment: Full-time, year-round

Start: Immediate

Benefits: Excellent employee benefits

Additional: Hiring or retention bonus available

Growth: Advancement opportunities

We are looking for someone who wants more than repetitive production work. You will be building real industrial rotating equipment where mechanical knowledge, workmanship, and attention to detail matter.

If you have 3+ years of hands-on centrifugal pump assembly experience, we want to hear from you.

Experienced pump mechanics, industrial millwrights, and rotating-equipment mechanics are strongly encouraged to apply.

Grow with us. Apply today.
