As our new Machine Operator, you will be performing complete setup and operations of various manual machines-including saws, broaches, polishers, balancers, trim lathes, and shaft straighteners-to produce precision components that keep the world's water moving. What you will be doing
As a key part of the Manufacturing Operations team, you'll create impact by Ensuring every component meets exacting quality standards while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence on the production floor..
Your main responsibilities include:
  • Set up and operate manual machines (saws, broaches, balancers, grinders, trim lathes, shaft straighteners) to perform all operations within machine capability, including metal removal, balancing, and grinding wheel dressing
  • Perform secondary operations such as deburring, drilling, tapping, honing, reaming, polishing, countersinking, and bushing installation to meet print specifications
  • Inspect parts for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications using precision measuring instruments and gages
  • Maintain manual and electronic records including data entry in SAP, and retrieve production information as needed
  • Handle material using forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment; receive, store, and retrieve materials to support production flow
  • Provide training and instruction to fellow operators, promote teamwork, and support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives

What makes you a great fit
Above all, you are a detail-oriented machining professional with strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read engineering drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. We would also imagine that you have:
  • High school diploma or GED with vocational training in precision measuring instruments, blueprint reading, or equivalent combination of education and experience *required
  • Hands-on experience operating manual machines and equipment such as saws, grinders, balancers, and drill presses
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, and apply shop math (decimals, fractions, multiplication, division) to fabrication calculations
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs, and work in a non-climate-controlled factory environment with flexibility for shift changes and overtime

It is a plus if you also:
  • Experience with balancing operations or precision machining
  • Forklift license and experience with crane lift rigging and other lifting equipment
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing concepts, SAP, and Microsoft Office applications

The salary range for this position is $45,300-$59,990 (paid hourly, non-exempt). Individual pay will be determined based on market location and the candidate's profile. The range listed is just one component of Peerless Grundfos's total compensation and benefits package for employees. Total compensation includes paid time off, paid holidays, merit increases, bonuses, and employee stock purchase programs, etc. Peerless Grundfos salary rates are benchmarked and reflect the target for new hire salaries for the position in Indianapolis, Indiana.
