Job description:

Summary

We are seeking a Medical Assistant / Front Desk Receptionist to join our team at Capital Area Pulmonary Associates in a floating position. In this versatile role, you will support both clinical and front desk operations, assisting with patient care, appointment management, and ensuring smooth daily workflow. Your flexibility and dedication will be essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and providing exceptional service to our patients.

Front Office Responsibilities (Reception):

  • Greet patients in a professional and friendly manner

  • Check patients in and out for appointments

  • Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments

  • Verify insurance and collect co-pays

  • Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and medical record requests

  • Update and maintain accurate patient demographics and intake forms

  • Handle general administrative support for the office

Back Office Responsibilities (Medical Assistant Duties):

  • Answer phone calls and assist with patient inquiries related to clinical care

  • Prepare patient charts and ensure all necessary documentation is ready for provider review

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and take vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, etc.)

  • Obtain and document patient history and symptoms in the EHR (Athena preferred)

  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits and assist during examinations

  • Clean and restock exam rooms between patients

  • Ensure all charts are complete and up to date before and after each visit

  • Support the provider with clinical procedures and patient care tasks

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients to ensure quality care

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is a plus but not required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems, preferably Athena

  • Professional and friendly demeanor with a patient-focused attitude

  • Flexibility to work a floating schedule as needed
