We're looking for a designer who is equal parts visual storyteller and creative problem solver-someone with a deep knowledge of publishing, typography, illustration, and brand design. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about creating engaging books for all age groups and can confidently work both within established style guides and on original publishing concepts.

This designer will develop covers, interiors, and supporting assets across a wide range of formats, including board books, storybooks, activity books, picture books, chapter books, middle-grade novels, young-adult novels, art books, film novelizations, and more.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a growing publishing program while collaborating with editorial, licensing, production, and franchise teams to bring some of the world's most beloved entertainment brands to life.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Design engaging covers, interiors, and supporting creative materials across a variety of publishing formats.
  • Develop original design concepts while translating established style guides into fresh, market-driven publishing experiences.
  • Art direct illustrators, photographers, and other freelance creative partners from concept through final execution.
  • Partner closely with Editorial, Production, Managing Editorial and Franchise teams throughout the publishing process.
  • Research marketplace trends, competitive titles, and emerging design directions to inform creative development.
  • Prepare print-ready and digital files while ensuring quality and production accuracy.
  • Help develop templates, visual systems, and design guidelines that support consistency across publishing programs.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while balancing creative excellence with production schedules and business priorities.
  • Licensing Partner Support: Review and provide creative feedback on publishing partner submissions to ensure brand consistency and publishing quality on a variety of licensed formats.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA, BFA) and/or equivalent design education.
  • 5+ years of publishing design experience, with a focus on children's publishing preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Robust portfolio demonstrating excellence in book cover design, interior design (1-color and 4-color), typography, and visual storytelling.
  • Illustration and hand-lettering skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Deep knowledge of file preparation, print production, color management, and publishing workflows.
  • Experience finding, hiring, collaborating with, and art directing illustrators.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time successfully.
  • Deep knowledge of licensing, brand storytelling, and creative approvals
  • Experience managing diverse product formats and categories
  • Forward-thinking and collaborative, with a solutions-focused mindset
