Role Overview

McGuire Sponselโ€™s unique business model assists CPA firms with identifying opportunities for their clients. By serving as an extension of our partner CPA firms (also known as our Alliance Network), McGuire Sponsel strengthens client relationships by offering a conservative approach to delivering services that fall outside the traditional practices of local and regional firms. Our efforts have established McGuire Sponsel as a leading technical resource to CPAs, and our Relationship Managers are the face of our brand, driving relationships with our Alliance Network in all 50 states across the US.

Relationship Managers play a critical role in developing new referral sources, expanding market presence, and supporting ongoing client relationship retention. This role is ideal for a relationship-driven professional who enjoys autonomy, collaboration, and strategic market development.

Department: Business Development
Reports to: Director, Alliance Network
Type: Full-time, exempt
Compensation: Base salary + commission

Responsibilities
  • Generate new client and referral relationship opportunities across your assigned territory (listed above).
  • Collaborate with Firm leadership to develop and execute regional business development strategies.
  • Manage the transition of awarded client engagements to appropriate Practice Lines, ensuring a smooth handoff.
  • Work with technical leaders to collect, analyze, and qualify client data in preparation for proposals or engagement letters.
  • Track new and existing opportunities in the CRM (Salesforce).
  • Participate in firmwide marketing initiatives.
  • Attend and represent the firm at industry events, tax conferences, networking events, and association meetings.
  • Travel to prospective CPA firms to present McGuire Sponsel services and build relationships.
  • Gain a strong understanding of McGuire Sponselโ€™s specialty tax service offerings and communicate them confidently to professional networks.
  • Maintain ongoing client relationship management and support.
  • Account Planning: Effectively plans for territory optimization and travel throughout the year
  • Account Management: Builds relationships with key stakeholders, identifies opportunities for cross-selling, and understands how to grow existing accounts while balancing new business development efforts
  • CRM Effectiveness: Leverages technology to stay organized in pipeline management
  • Emotional Intelligence: Recognizes emotions in typical situations and their effects on self and others.
  • Effective Communication: Understands how to adapt communication to any given audience and promptly responds to all client correspondence
  • Networking: Builds an intentional network to support business growth
  • Strategic Selling: Understands how to ask strategic questions, connect dots in a conversation to solve client problems, and build partnerships on an executive level
Role Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience in sales or a professional services environment
  • Strong strategic planning ability with consistent execution
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Consultative mindset with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong professionalism, presence, and decorum
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% and work outside a traditional office environment when in-market
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Valid U.S. driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation
  • Preferred but not required: prior tax or accounting sales experience, familiarity with tax concepts, consulting or client-facing experience, experience using Salesforce
