POSITION TITLE: Psychometrician, Innovation & Measurement Research, Examinations

STATUS: Full time / Exempt

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site, 3 days/week remote)

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking to fill a Psychometrician opening on our Innovation and Measurement Research team. Position title (i.e., Associate Psychometrician or Psychometrician I) and corresponding level of responsibility will be dependent upon experience. This role will assist in developing research activities related to psychometrics, and will support psychometric research projects such as test design, adaptive testing, differential functioning, fairness and equality, practice analysis, standard setting, and other exam performance and improvement projects.

The Psychometrician position will report to the Principal Research Scientist, Innovation & Measurement Research, Examinations. This role will investigate machine learning techniques across psychometric, security, and operational contexts, identify boundary conditions and limitations, and implement methods that uphold testing standards. They will also interpret and maintain code base in Python and R for reproducible research experiments and conduct data visualization and dashboarding using tools such as Power BI, Shiny, Dash, or other similar technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts psychometric research studies including IRT calibration, differential item functioning analyses, standard setting methodologies, test design optimization, and test security under the direction of senior research staff.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and cross-functional teams to deliver high quality results on time as well as be a strong supporter of effective teamwork.
  • Assists in developing psychometric software (e.g., scoring, standard setting, and automated test assembly) to support on-going research and operational efforts and new products.
  • Demonstrate professional writing skills in preparing technical reports and process documentation, as well as professional presentation skills with varying degrees of psychometric knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in educational measurement and testing, psychometrics, or related field required (ABD acceptable for Associate level role).
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience (dissertation research and internship experience could be acceptable).
  • Proficiency with Python/R/SQL.
  • Experience with managing large datasets.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral business communications skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to travel.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $85,000 - $112,000 annually. Actual compensation will be dependent on a candidate’s relevant experience, skills, training, certifications/licenses, qualifications and geographical location.
