About the Opportunity
Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with students, with an initial focus on Khoury College of Computer Sciences. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position. You will join a team of highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to the students of Khoury College.
Responsibilities:
Education of Students: The Co-op Coordinator guides students through their career development and co-op experiences. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today's global environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops, and in the classroom.
The Co-op Coordinator teaches a co-op preparation course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching job search strategy, interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, as well as leadership skills and self-assessment.
The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
Integrated Learning:
Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning. The Co-op Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Co-op Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
Employer Relations/Job Development:
The Co-op Coordinator develops new co-op partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni. The co-op faculty coordinator must develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and/or active participation in relevant professional organizations.
Service: The Co-op Coordinator also engages in service to Cooperative Education within the office of the Chancellor, The Khoury College of Computer Sciences, and to Northeastern University. Service includes but not limited to: making presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces; and/or serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Qualifications:
  • A master's degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or an industry-related field, is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years of work experience
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual's career development.
  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An academic degree in a related tech profession, or experience in career development and counseling of tech students.
  • Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.
  • Professional experience within the tech industry is a plus

Pay Range:
Assistant Co-op Coordinator: $69,000.00 - $89,000.00 | Associate Co-op Coordinator: $73,000.00 - $92,000.00
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
