How much do psychology assistant jobs pay per hour?
What is a psychology assistant?
A psychology assistant aides a licensed psychologist in the care of patients. Psychology assistants are not licensed to provide therapy or work independently; they serve patients under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. As a psychology assistant, your responsibilities and duties include assisting with new patient intake, conducting assessments, and aiding in research. Because psychologists need a master's degree or a doctorate, many people with bachelor's degrees in psychology become psychology assistants to determine if they would like to continue on this career path.

Job description
The Department of Psychology at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Developmental Psychology or Child Clinical Psychology to start in August 2027. We seek a colleague who is committed to inclusive undergraduate teaching and collaborative research with undergraduate students. The Butler Psychology Department values candidates who share our commitment to engagement and inclusion of students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
Successful applicants will be broadly trained in psychology and will be ready to teach in a multidisciplinary university core curriculum. Standard teaching load is nine (9) credit hours per semester plus an active program of research involving undergraduate collaborators. We seek colleagues who will be ready to teach required psychology courses such as research methods and statistics, introductory psychology, lifespan development, abnormal psychology, and/or personality, as well as upper-level electives in their area of expertise. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to evidence-based and engaged-learning pedagogies and to building an inclusive classroom environment for an increasingly diverse student body.
This position requires full-time, in-person instruction. A Ph.D. in Developmental or Child Clinical Psychology (or a closely related field) at the time of appointment is required. Applicants with research specializations engaging critical perspectives and/or focused on areas related to diversity are especially encouraged to apply.
The Butler University Psychology Department is housed in the Sally Beck Suite of the newly renovated Holcomb building and includes faculty offices, labs, and classrooms. More information about our department and the University can be found at: https://www.butler.edu/arts-sciences/psychology.
Butler University offers support for faculty development in many ways, including start-up funds for research, internal grants for collaborative research with undergraduates, a learning community for new faculty, and funds for faculty and students to travel to present research.
To apply, applicants should submit the following:
- cover letter discussing qualifications for and interest in the position, including the kinds of courses the candidate would be prepared or interested in teaching
- CV
- Teaching statement which highlights evidence of effective, evidence-based, and inclusive teaching (e.g. sample syllabi, student evaluations, peer evaluations)
- Research statement that includes plans for a program of research involving undergraduate students
- transcripts of graduate work or other evidence of terminal degree(s) (unofficial is acceptable for candidate review)
- list of 3-5 references, including name, title, and contact information (shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation)
Review of applications will begin September 18, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Please direct questions to search committee co-chair, Dr. Karina Hamamouche (khamamou@butler.edu).
