Job description

Medical Director of Treatment Programs — Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine

Advaita Health is committed to building a sustainable, integrated model of behavioral healthcare where providers and patients can thrive. Our medical and clinical teams work together across disciplines, coordinating care for patients with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.

We’re looking for a Medical Director of Treatment Programs to provide medical leadership across our Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder PHP and IOP programs. This role combines direct patient care with physician leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supervision of Advanced Practice Providers.

Our treatment programs are grounded in a relational approach to care. We believe the relationship between provider and patient matters, and that the strongest treatment happens when psychiatry, therapy, and program teams are working together rather than alongside one another.

Our goal is to create an environment where you can build a lasting career, remain connected to clinical practice, develop other providers, and have a meaningful influence on how we care for patients with complex needs.

We support this through:

  • Protected time for both patient care and physician leadership
  • 20–24 patient-facing hours per week
  • Clinical leadership and supervision of approximately 4 APPs
  • 30-minute established patient appointments
  • Built-in collaboration with therapists and program leadership
  • Opportunities to strengthen the integration of psychiatric and addiction care across programs
  • Performance measures grounded in values, competencies, quality, and accountability—not simply volume
  • A full-time salary model rather than RVU-based compensation
  • Technology and operational support designed to support clinical work

Why Join Advaita Health?

This role is designed for a psychiatrist who enjoys the complexity of treating mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders and believes excellent care requires strong collaboration between medical and clinical teams.

You’ll work closely with our clinical leadership and multidisciplinary treatment teams while providing medical leadership to APPs. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence clinical practice, treatment approaches, quality, and the continued growth of our PHP and IOP programs.

Benefits include:

  • Full-time salary model (not RVUs)
  • $2,000 CME allowance after the probationary period
  • Quarterly bonus potential
  • Liability insurance and credentialing covered
  • 401(k) match
  • 3 weeks of PTO and 10 paid federal holidays
  • Flexible health, dental, and vision coverage with HSA/FSA options
  • Employer-paid life insurance up to $10,000
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • Employee Assistance Program with therapy and financial support
  • Free CPR, CPT, and First Aid training

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a psychiatrist who values relational psychiatry, integrated care, and interdisciplinary collaboration and wants to work with patients who may need more support than traditional outpatient treatment provides.

The right person will be:

  • Curious and committed to continued growth
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Skilled, present, and intentional in their clinical work
  • Comfortable treating complex mental health, substance use, and co-occurring presentations
  • Interested in providing clinical leadership to APPs
  • Excited about close collaboration with therapists and clinical program leadership
  • Invested in evidence-based care, quality, and patient safety
  • Aligned with a culture of accountability, feedback, and supporting one another

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program
  • Board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry
  • Board certification in Addiction Psychiatry preferred; alternatively, at least three years of significant clinical experience in addiction medicine or substance use disorder treatment preferred
  • Experience treating mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders
  • Experience with medications for addiction treatment preferred
  • Current, unrestricted North Carolina medical license
  • Current, unrestricted DEA registration
  • Experience supervising or providing clinical leadership to APPs preferred

Ready to Join Us?

If you want to practice psychiatry in a setting where medical and clinical care are truly integrated, develop other providers, and help us continue strengthening how we care for patients with complex mental health and substance use needs, we’d love to hear from you.
