Job description

Make a difference in the lives of New York City's older adults, their families and the community. For over 60 years PSS has performed vital and important work -- through its ten senior centers, caregiver services and affiliated programs, the agency touches the lives of over 2,000 people a day. As the Custodian of one of the senior centers, you will be responsible for the general cleanliness of the facility. The Custodian role is vital in ensuring that the center is a physically welcoming and a safe place for all members and visitors.

This is a full time non-exempt position that reports directly to the Program Director

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the center at all times including bathrooms, offices and all common areas.
  • Serve lunch to the members (if needed)
  • Sweep, mop, strip and wax he floors.
  • Build, move and replace furniture as needed.
  • Paint center and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Clean large and small appliances and equipment.
  • Remove dust from ventilation ducts and change light bulbs.
  • Clean and wash fans.
  • Remove garbage daily and wash all garbage cans/containers including individual waste baskets.
  • Clear entryway of snow or debris for sage access to center.
  • Restock and keep custodial supplies and storage area in order.
  • Maintain front desk and main entrance covered by assisting in bussing the center members in as a security check point.
  • Notify Director of supplies needed.
  • Locations changes may occur if coverage is needed at another OAC or the OAC is closed temporarily.
  • Occasional weekends, holidays and evening hours may be required, this includes cooling center hours during the summer months.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Organizational Skills
  • Experience with and knowledge of current cleaning methods
  • Experience working with Older Adults a plus
  • Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) desirable
