Job description

Railcar Prepper / Auto Loader Setup โ€“ PRS Auto (Detroit, MI)
Immediate Hire
Union Job
Entry-Level with On-the-Job Training at Norfolk Southern's Jefferson Assembly Plant

Ready to jumpstart your career in the exciting world of rail and automotive logistics? No prior experience? No problem! PRS Auto is hiring motivated people right now to help prepare massive railcars for loading brand-new vehicles straight from the factory floor. You'll be part of the team that gets fresh-off-the-line cars (think Jeeps, trucks, and more from the iconic Jefferson North Assembly Plant) securely loaded and ready to ship across the country via rail.
This is hands-on, active work in the heart of Detroit's auto industryโ€”where every shift helps keep America's vehicles moving and supports one of the biggest names in manufacturing. Plus, it's a union position with real opportunities to grow into bigger roles in railcar repair, operations, or beyond. PRS Auto has locations nationwide, and we love promoting from within!
What You'll Do: (and Why It's Awesome)
  • Prep railcars like a pro: Inspect and secure chocks (tie-down devices), open/close doors, adjust decks and grates, and clear tracks with a backpack blower for smooth loading.
  • Spot and flag defects so our repair teams can keep everything safe and up to AAR standards.
  • Physically engage with the job: Bend, squat, lean, lift and move bridge plates to connect railcarsโ€”perfect for anyone who thrives on movement and variety.
  • Follow top-notch safety protocols and PRS Auto processes every step of the wayโ€”safety is our #1 priority, and we back it up with training and support.
No experience neededโ€”we'll teach you everything on the job, from railcar basics to industry standards. It's a great entry point into railroading with room to advance!
Typical Schedule & What to Expect:
  • Mostly first shift, but flexibility is keyโ€”schedules can vary, and you'll need to be available for weekends and holidays when the cars are rolling out.
  • Work outdoors in all weather (rain, snow, sunโ€”Detroit's full range!).
  • Physical demands: Lift up to 50 lbs overhead, climb ladders/heights (no fear of heights!), and stay active all shift.

Who We're Looking For:
  • Live within a 45-minute commute of the Spring Hill, TN area? Waitโ€”no, the posting says Detroit, MI at Norfolk Southern Jefferson Assembly Plant. (Note: Local candidates onlyโ€”no relocation or out-of-area applicants considered.)
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Pass a 7-year background check and drug test.
  • Comfortable working outside, lifting, climbingโ€”no high school diploma or GED required.
  • Eager to learn, safety-minded, and ready to join a team that values hard work and reliability.
You'll be employed by PTRS (not the railroad directly), enjoying union benefits and the stability of essential work in the transportation industry.
If you're looking for an active, rewarding entry-level role with paid training, union perks, and a clear path to career growth in rail and auto logisticsโ€”this is your chance to get on board!
Apply now and help load the next wave of American-made vehicles onto the rails. Let's keep Detroit (and the country) moving!ย
