Job description

PRS Auto is hiring immediately for Auto Inspection Clerks to join our team in a recession-proof industry working at a Norfolk Southern Petersburg Auto Terminal in Petersburg, VA. There is No Experience required in this entry level position as we'll teach you everything you need to know in order to be successful on the job.
You will be employed directly with PRS Auto and will not be employed by the railroad.

Starting Rate is $17

We're hiring for the below shift:.
  • Dayshift.
  • Overtime is sometimes required.

Summary/Objective:
The Gate Inspector is responsible for inspecting the automobiles arriving and departing the railroad facility as well as checking truck drivers in and out of the facility. This would include inspecting the unit numbers and automobile for damage, as well as completing necessary paperwork as required by the customer. You'll also need to maintain a visitor log.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Maintains accuracy of auto inspections.
  • Responsible for overseeing and documenting any damage to arriving or departing units with timeliness and accuracy to the customer.
  • Clearly outlines and communicates all damage incurred on appropriate forms and/or computer system with a direct supervisor.
  • Maintains a quality environment where performance inspections are handled accurately, safely and accident & injury-free.
  • Ensures compliance is met under the HAZMAT and OSHA Regulations. This would include reporting any incidents to the supervisory immediately. Inspectors are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, safety toe boots, and protective hard hat, when applicable.
  • Be familiar with all railyard operations, while maintaining a safe distance from moving vehicles.
  • Pick up debris in the inspection area to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Maintain company values, rules, policies, and procedures are met to fulfill the company mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
  • Required job duties are performed in outdoor environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, cold, heat, wind, dust, and fumes.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually frequent.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.

Applicants for the Gate Inspector position must meet the general requirements for employment with the company, according to the Company hiring process which include:
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be able to pass a 7-year background check and a drug test.
  • No GED or High School Diploma required.
