What Does a Proposal Manager Do?

As a proposal manager, your primary responsibilities involve preparing company proposals and working to ensure you meet goals on time. Your duties require you to collaborate with marketing, operations, business development, and other departments to review information and assess the most efficient and effective plan. You write a draft, prepare a presentation, and bring your recommendations to clients. You manage the request for proposal (RFP) from start to finish and assist along the way. You maintain the resource materials, check that you are following proper procedures and standards, and communicate with outside vendors as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Proposal Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Proposal Manager, you need strong project management abilities, excellent writing and editing skills, and a background in business development or related fields, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with proposal management software (such as RFPIO or Qvidian), CRM systems, and knowledge of RFP processes are typically required. Outstanding attention to detail, collaboration, and time management help Proposal Managers excel under tight deadlines and coordinate input from various stakeholders. These skills ensure that proposals are compliant, compelling, and delivered on time, increasing win rates and supporting business growth.

What are some common challenges Proposal Managers face when coordinating cross-functional teams during the proposal process?

Proposal Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning schedules and priorities across diverse departments, ensuring timely contributions from subject matter experts, and maintaining consistent messaging throughout the proposal. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential for navigating these hurdles. Additionally, Proposal Managers must be adept at managing tight deadlines and last-minute changes, all while fostering collaboration and keeping the team motivated.

What is a Proposal Manager?

A Proposal Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the creation, development, and submission of business proposals, often in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) from clients or government agencies. They coordinate teams, manage timelines, ensure compliance with requirements, and assemble all necessary documentation to create compelling and competitive proposals. Their goal is to increase the organization’s chances of winning contracts by delivering clear, persuasive, and compliant proposals. Proposal Managers work closely with sales, technical experts, and other stakeholders throughout the proposal process.

Co-Founder & CEO - AI Proposal Intelligence for AEC

FutureSight

Seattle, WA • Remote

Full-time

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

The Opportunity

FutureSight is seeking a Co-Founder & CEO to lead BidOps, an AI-native proposal-orchestration platform for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms, currently being built at our studio. This is a co-founder partnership with meaningful founder equity, not a salaried executive role.

BidOps is an AI-native proposal platform that automates requirement and compliance tracking, intelligently reuses institutional knowledge and proposal content, and streamlines coordination across technical experts. The platform centralizes RFQ/RFP requirements, maps them to past project experience and qualifications, manages SME inputs, and provides AI-assisted completeness checks — while integrating with the authoring environments AEC teams already use, including Word, InDesign and PDF workflows. Rather than another generic AI writing tool, BidOps is positioned as the proposal orchestration and compliance layer that enables firms to move faster, reduce submission risk, and pursue more opportunities with the same teams.

We are now seeking the founder to lead the venture from here.

Market Context
  • The global construction market reached $11–13T in 2024 and is projected to grow to approximately $16T by 2030
  • 500,000+ AEC firms operate globally, with thousands running dedicated proposal and marketing functions
  • Mid-to-large AEC firms submit 30–200+ proposals annually, making proposal execution a core revenue workflow
  • Winning a single additional project can represent $1M–$100M+ in incremental backlog, creating strong ROI sensitivity to proposal efficiency
  • The global proposal management market is estimated at $830.8M in 2024, growing at approximately 9.3% CAGR
About FutureSight

FutureSight is a leading venture studio that co-creates world-class software companies with values-driven entrepreneurs from inception to exit. We are a team of founders, operators and designers with experience successfully bringing software to market at scale.

You'll co-create with a proven studio team, including:

  • John Carbrey – 4x founder, bootstrapped to $100M ARR
  • Joshua Auslander – Seasoned CFO and strategic advisor with $200M aggregate exits
  • Alan Smith – Globally recognized early stage validation expert, 24 products launched, an exit, 5M+ books sold
  • Prathna Ramesh – Early-stage investor and capital strategy advisor
The Partnership
  • Founder equity with meaningful ownership from inception
  • Pre-seed capital committed by FutureSight for early hires and MVP development, with potential for follow-on funding
  • Studio resources, including embedded design, engineering, growth, and fundraising support from day one
  • Investor and advisor network across vertical SaaS, AEC, and early-stage capital markets
  • A true co-creation model in which you operate as CEO with the studio as your partner
What you'll own

As Co-Founder & CEO, you will set the direction of the venture and lead its execution.

  • Strategy — Refine the ICP, pricing model, and product positioning across the AEC vertical wedge
  • Customer Development — Lead pilots with mid-market AEC firms, convert them to paid engagements, and build the go-to-market motion through AEC networks, marketing associations, and industry partnerships
  • Product — Partner with the FutureSight product and engineering team to ship V1 and iterate on user feedback, with a focus on compliance extraction, semantic mapping, and SME workflows
  • Capital — Lead the seed raise, supported by FutureSight's network and traction
  • Team — Recruit and lead the founding team, and establish the cultural foundation of the company
Co-Founder Profile
  • Previous founding experience at a venture-backed company
  • Demonstrated success in B2B SaaS go-to-market, including sales and customer engagement
  • Fundraising fluency, with the ability to develop investor narratives and close capital
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent
  • Clear-eyed understanding of the risks and demands of co-founding a venture-backed company
  • Direct exposure to AEC, government contracting, proposal management, or B2B SaaS for professional services, with familiarity in AI agents/LLMs
How to Apply

Please submit your resume, LinkedIn profile, and a brief note on why this venture aligns with your goals as a founder. We will move quickly for the right candidate.

FutureSight is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and experiences.
