Job Description
VWH is seeking a Valuation Analyst/Associate to monitor and review the property valuation of non-performing residential mortgages and related products held by the firm. The role's primary responsibility is to assess the market value of residential properties in the context of loan activities, such as acquisition, loan modifications, foreclosure, short sales, and REO. This includes analyzing property data, market trends, BPO and appraisal reports to ensure accurate valuations.
The ideal candidate will have had experience working with default loans/real estate to conduct due diligence property valuation analysis. The candidate will assist in the coordination/monitoring of our 3rd party vendors to ensure accurate information.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct valuations for single-family, condos, 2-4 family residential property types to support the Due Diligence process and Asset Management decisions, including loan modifications, loss mitigation, and default management.
  • Monitor local real estate market trends, economic conditions, and property-specific factors to inform valuations for distressed or performing loans.
  • Assess property values within mortgage portfolios to support reporting, REO (Real Estate Owned) disposition, or securitization processes.
  • Identify valuation risks (e.g., declining property values, neighborhood deterioration) and provide insights to minimize losses in default scenarios.
  • Partner with loan servicers and external vendors (e.g., appraisers, real estate agents) to resolve valuation discrepancies and support default outcomes.
  • Leverage valuation tools, automated valuation models (AVMs), and multiple listing services (MLS) to streamline analysis and ensure data accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in real estate valuation, mortgage servicing, or related fields; experience with residential properties in default mortgage servicing context preferred.
  • State-certified appraiser license or progress toward certification (e.g., Trainee Appraiser) is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with valuations for distressed properties or REO assets.
  • Familiarity with automated valuation models and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Working knowledge of mortgage servicing and associated systems such as LPS, Black Knight, MSP, and Pyramid
  • Familiar with mortgage loan collateral documents, especially appraisals, notes, title policies, title reports, title commitments, and assignments and endorsements
  • Ability to create policies and procedures and suggest areas to improve
  • Ability to combine data from multiple sources to create singular reports
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Strong client services skills and ability to work as a team with internal and external counterparties
  • High sense of urgency, accountability, attention to detail, prioritization skills, and organization
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Relational database and business intelligence software experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work in Uptown Dallas office, 5 days per week
