Why This Role Matters
Every tank you install and every system you service directly impacts how families heat their homes, how farms operate, and how businesses stay open. As a Service Technician for Carolina Propane, you're not just maintaining equipment you're ensuring safety, reliability, and peace of mind for customers across your community. Your work is visible, trusted, and essential.
What You'll Be Responsible For
You'll be part of the hands-on team that installs, inspects, and supports propane systems in the field. Success in this role means safe installs, accurate documentation, and dependable service customers can count on, even when conditions are tough.
  • Install propane tanks and systems in compliance with all state and local regulations, including NFPA 58 and 54
  • Complete required state licenses and certifications as needed (with company support where applicable)
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections (DVIR) and keep equipment in excellent operating condition
  • Accurately complete and submit service orders and parts billing each day
  • Support seasonal delivery operations by driving a delivery vehicle when needed
  • Report incidents, accidents, or safety concerns immediately to the General Manager
  • Participate in an on-call rotation that may require work outside standard hours, depending on customer needs
  • Safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 75 lbs in varied weather and terrain

What You'll Actually Do in Your First 30 Days
  • Complete onboarding, safety training, and required compliance reviews for propane installs
  • Ride along with experienced technicians to learn EDP's installation standards, documentation process, and customer service expectations
  • Begin completing service orders and daily vehicle inspections independently
  • Successfully perform supervised tank installations that meet regulatory and company standards

By 90 days, success looks like independently completing installs, documenting work accurately every day, and being trusted to represent EDP professionally on customer sites.
What You Need to Have (Must Have)
These are true requirements for success in this role:
  1. High school diploma or GED (or equivalent practical experience)
  2. Valid Class B CDL
  3. Ability to safely lift and handle equipment up to 75 lbs
  4. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  5. Strong focus on safety, compliance, and accurate documentation

What's Helpful but Not Required
  • Tanker and Hazmat endorsements
  • 2-3 years of experience in propane, HVAC, or a related field
  • Familiarity with propane systems, NFPA standards, and industry regulations
  • Comfort using basic computer systems for service orders and billing
  • Prior customer-facing experience in a technical or field service role
