Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking passionate and energetic individuals with experience conducting land management and habitat restoration in natural areas within the Great Lakes Region. Successful applicants will join a growing group of water resource engineers, environmental scientists and ecological restoration practitioners implementing projects to conserve, restore, and manage prairies, wetlands, woodlands, and other native habitats. As an Ecosystem Restoration Project Manager or Task Manager, you will help lead project delivery and field staff with a focus on safety, innovation, and Seniorquality project delivery while in direct contact with other Senior staff, subject matter experts (SMEs), clients, and project stakeholders. Grow as a project manager while managing budgets, scopes of work, safety plans, risk reviews, contract reviews, material procurement, and coordination of field staff. Advance your career in the natural resources field by gaining leadership experience and expanding your network to include industry-leading engineers, scientists, and environmental professionals. This is a full-time (40+ hours per week) position based out of our Cincinnati, OH (Blue Ash, OH) office location.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Project Manager or Task Manager on a variety of ecological restoration projects
  • Provide technical expertise in restoration implementation methods to assist in proposal preparation, pricing, managing budgets, and directing field staff in appropriate and safe implementation.
  • Prepare work plans to direct implementation crews and regular update reports to the client regarding project status.
  • Demonstrate skills and experience with field tasks such as plant identification, invasive species control methods, ecological restoration techniques, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, and equipment operation (e.g. tractors, compact utility loaders, UTVs, chainsaws, hand tools). Proficient in working with and collecting field data in ESRI Field Maps.
  • Responsible for coordinating with senior restoration staff to ensure projects are tracking on time and on budget with specific consideration to scope changes and budget change orders. Will communicate directly with clients or agency representatives to ensure project goals and objectives are being met.
  • Participate in business development activities such as proposal development and client meetings.
  • Implement a safety-first mindset and apply all established health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) standards during all office and field operations.
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for Stantec-led ecological restoration projects.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • 7 to 10 years of proven experience in the field of ecological restoration, ecological engineering, water resource engineering or habitat management.
  • Experience in aquatic habitat management planning and/or water resource engineering
  • Experience with financial forecasting (earned value management) at the project level is preferred.
  • Experience with project level cost accounting is preferred.
  • Experience with ecological restoration implementation and natural areas management including vegetation management techniques such as: herbicide applications, cutting / mowing, prescribed burning, native seeding, installation of erosion control materials, native planting, and wetland/stream design.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management, scheduling, crew leadership, mentorship, and materials coordination.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience understanding and tracking project budgets and scope.
  • Organized and capable of leading work assignments with attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solution orientation, detail oriented and resourceful.
  • Positive, safety-first attitude.
  • Flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on and potentially lead multiple tasks subject to project deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word & Excel
  • A good driving record and valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in ecology, biology, restoration science, conservation biology, civil or environmental engineering, or related science.
  • 7 years or more of related, professional experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification will be prioritized
  • Applicants with a P.E. or an E.I.T. in civil engineering will be prioritized
  • Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner is valued
  • Rosgen stream restoration experience is valued
  • Experience designing and/or implementing Section 404/401 wetland and stream mitigation projects is preferred.
