The Project Support Specialist provides direct support to a National Park Service (NPS) contracting team project manager, contributing to the successful delivery of initiatives that impact park operations nationwide. This role focuses on developing clear, effective training materials, communication products, and business process documentation to support NPS park staff in adopting new tools, systems, or workflows.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who can translate complex concepts into practical, user-friendly guidance for a diverse, field-based workforce.

Responsibilities

Project & Program Support

  • Support the project manager in planning, coordination, and execution of project activities
  • Track action items, deliverables, and timelines to ensure project milestones are met
  • Assist in stakeholder coordination across NPS regions, parks, and program offices

Training & Documentation Development

  • Develop training materials, including user guides, job aids, presentations, and reference documents
  • Translate technical or complex processes into clear, accessible content for non-technical audiences
  • Support development of training strategies and rollout plans for park staff

Communications

  • Draft and edit internal communications, including announcements, updates, FAQs, and newsletters
  • Develop messaging that supports change management and user adoption
  • Ensure consistency in tone, branding, and clarity across all communication products

Business Process & Practice Support

  • Document current and future-state business processes and workflows.
  • Help define and standardize business practices across parks and regions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, clarity, and usability of processes.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Gather input and feedback from park staff and subject matter experts.
  • Incorporate user feedback into training materials and process improvements.
  • Support meetings, workshops, and working sessions (agenda development, notes, follow-ups).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, business, or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience supporting projects, programs, or operations.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting federal agencies or public sector clients.
  • Familiarity with change management or communications strategies.
  • Experience working with field-based or operational staff (e.g., facilities, maintenance, park operations).
  • Understanding of business process mapping or continuous improvement practices.
