Job description

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Capital Project Manager for a contract assignment with one of our premier Utility Services clients in Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities :
Responsible for the design and construction and/or commissioning of intermediate to large-size capital renewable projects. May be asked to train and mentor more associate project managers. Uses formal project management methods to coordinate project team activities including defining the scope of work, scheduling, estimating and engineering. Manage costs and change control procedures and ensure project close-out and documentation processes are complete. Types of projects include solar, wind, and energy storage, with hands-on construction assignments in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Span of control: this is an individual contributor job.
  • Develops renewable energy project scope and coordinates a team of specialists who provide project schedule, cost estimates and engineering specifications for capital projects.
  • Ensures the completion of engineering, design, installation, testing, commissioning into service and project closeout.
  • Responsible for renewable project expenditures and the cost-effective procurement of labor, equipment and materials: coordinates with authorized company representatives in conducting bid meetings and reviews, supplier selections and evaluations; determines contracting strategy congruent with labor utilization strategies.
  • Supports daily management of on-site construction activities, working with contractors and service providers, including timely completion of work within approved budget.
  • Responsible for meeting key performance metrics including scope, schedule, and budget for projects and/or programs.
  • Communicate as the main point of contact to provide updates on project statuses to all stakeholders and engage appropriate stakeholders in decisions to ensure a clear understanding of direction and expectations.
  • Serve as the main liaison with internal organizations, plants, suppliers, trade labor organizations (unions), etc. May support contract administration services for blanket orders or other subcontractors and vendors.
  • Evaluates conditions and consults on solutions to control project risk.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and obtains regulatory approval for the construction and operation of new renewable energy projects required.
  • Mentor and train more associate level project managers, project engineers, and/or co-op students
Required Skills:
  • This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:
    • Master's or bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, construction management, project management, or business/management and 6 years of project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects.
    • Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture/technical design, project management, business/management, construction management, or construction technology and 8 years of related project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years of related project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Renewable or utility experience
  • Large scale construction experience
