Job Summary

SEH is seeking an experienced Electrical Group Leader to lead and grow our Electrical Engineering discipline within the Mechanical/Electrical Practice in Minnesota. This role blends technical leadership, team development, and business growth, overseeing a team of approximately 10 engineers and designers supporting municipal and industrial projects. The Electrical Group Manager will remain actively involved in project delivery while mentoring staff, supporting proposals, strengthening client relationships, and expanding the discipline's market presence. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity focused on technical excellence, internal collaboration, and sustainable growth within an employee-owned firm.

Locations: St. Paul, MN, Rochester, MN, St. Cloud, MN, or Duluth, MN

Role Mission

Lead, grow, and elevate SEH's Electrical Engineering team by:

What You Will Own

1. Electrical Discipline Leadership (Team of ~10 and Growing)

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and designers
  • Conduct performance development conversations and succession planning
  • Recruit and hire strategically to support growth
  • Align team workload with project demand and future pipeline
  • Build a culture of accountability and technical excellence

2. Technical Excellence & Project Leadership

  • Serve as Electrical Discipline Lead on complex municipal and industrial projects
  • Provide technical oversight on power distribution, controls, arc flash, lighting, backup systems
  • Ensure quality assurance processes are followed
  • Support project managers in delivering projects on scope, schedule, and budget

Success Indicators:

  • Minimal rework and QA issues
  • Strong client technical feedback

3. Growth & Business Development

  • Support proposal development and interviews
  • Develop relationships with municipal and industrial clients

Who We're Looking For

You are:

  • A licensed Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years into your electrical engineering career
  • Experienced leading electrical scope on complex projects
  • Comfortable mentoring engineers and holding them accountable
  • Growth-oriented and energized by building teams
  • Strong communicator with both internal teams and external clients
  • Business-aware (understand utilization, scope, and margin - even if not owning P&L)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed PE
  • Experience leading electrical discipline on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Demonstrated team leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical codes and standards

Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial or municipal system design
  • Water and wastewater facility design
  • SKM proficiency (short circuit, load flow, arc flash)
  • Proposal development experience
  • Experience mentoring early-career engineers
  • Strong client engagement skills
