Job Title: Bookkeeper (Project Support)
Location: Hampton, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time (W2)
GovFirst is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper (Project Support) to provide financial, payroll, and administrative support for project operations in Hampton, VA. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate personnel records, processing timekeeping data, supporting invoicing, and assisting with project compliance and reporting activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Support new hire onboarding by entering and maintaining personnel records, access badge information, employee photos, and payroll data in the project database (Claris FileMaker).
  • Collect, review, and enter personnel timesheets from multiple worksites and subcontractors.
  • Validate timesheet data against supervisor reports and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Manage labor charge codes in the payroll system and coordinate updates with clients, subcontractors, and corporate teams.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize monthly project invoices, including personnel, subcontractor, equipment, and other direct cost entries.
  • Develop and generate custom reports from the project database for billing, compliance, and management review.
  • Track and report safety metrics and assist with compliance requirements across federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain payroll, billing, and holiday calendars to ensure accurate processing timelines.
  • Support overall project administration and contribute to operational efficiency and management goals.
  • Perform additional financial and administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Experience & Skills:
  • Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping, payroll, accounting, or administrative support experience (government or construction project experience preferred).
  • Strong skills in data entry, reconciliation, and cost reporting.
  • Familiarity with Claris FileMaker, payroll systems, or similar database platforms preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including corporate teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, data science, or related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Required Work Authorization:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
