The main difference between a Project Manager Semiconductor and a Product Manager Semiconductor lies in their focus. The Project Manager oversees the execution of specific semiconductor projects, ensuring timely delivery and resource management. In contrast, the Product Manager focuses on the overall success of semiconductor products, including market positioning and customer needs. Both roles require technical knowledge and industry experience but serve different strategic functions within the semiconductor industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you need strong project management expertise, a background in engineering or related technical fields, and experience with semiconductor processes. Familiarity with project management tools (such as MS Project or Jira), semiconductor design software, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma are highly valued. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help coordinate cross-functional teams and navigate complex technical challenges. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope, driving innovation and efficiency in a highly competitive industry.

What does a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry do?

A Project Manager in the semiconductor industry oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects related to the design, manufacturing, or improvement of semiconductor products. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage budgets and timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their responsibilities also include identifying risks, resolving issues, and communicating progress to stakeholders. Successful project managers in this field need strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and market demands.

How does a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project's lifecycle?

As a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you will regularly coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure project milestones are met. This role requires frequent cross-departmental meetings to align on technical requirements, resolve bottlenecks, and manage timelines. Effective communication and the ability to translate complex technical details into actionable tasks are essential, as you’ll act as the bridge between technical teams and executive stakeholders. Collaboration tools and structured processes, such as Agile or Stage-Gate methodologies, are often used to maintain project visibility and momentum.

Job description

Who Are We?
Do you want to help to make the world a better place? Join our team! At TSI our vision is to create a better world by helping to protect people, products and the environment. We are proud of the wide range of solutions we provide that solve our customer's problems around the world. From helping to ensure worker safety and understanding air quality to supporting complex highly technical industries such as pharmaceuticals manufacturing, semiconductor, and research customers, TSI employees are part of something special with a purpose.

Sr. Global Product Manager at TSI
Own the P&L for one of TSI's fastest-growing global businesses, and shape its direction for the next decade and beyond. Every advanced chip in the world is built in a cleanroom, where a single stray particle can ruin a wafer - TSI's instruments are what keep those environments under control. As fabs push to ever-smaller nodes, the bar for contamination measurement keeps rising, and this role sets the strategy to meet that challenge and enable future capabilities.

We're looking for a Sr. Global Product Manager to lead product strategy, roadmaps, and go-to-market execution for our electronics and semiconductor portfolio - hardware, software, and services. The core of the mandate is new product development: as fabs push to smaller nodes, measurement needs keep surfacing that nothing on the market yet solves. This role identifies those needs, builds the case for them, and drives them through to launch. This role will also extend our monitoring platform across the semiconductor line, hold full P&L ownership, and have a clear line of sight into where the business goes next - new segments, new partnerships, potential M&A. Reporting into the Business Director for Contamination Control, this is a senior, high-visibility seat with real latitude to set direction. Key to success in this role is a highly collaborative approach with all functions, partnering closely with Finance, Product Development, and Marketing Communications, as well as working closely alongside regional Sales, Marketing, and Product teams across EMEA, APAC, and North America.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will be responsible for:

  • New product development (NPD) - identify unmet electronics and semiconductor measurement needs and drive through to launch, partnering closely with Product Development on VOC, concept formation, and opportunity identification
  • Product line strategy and P&L - set direction across product, price, promotion, and channel, and execute the initiatives that drive growth and profitability
  • Platform expansion - lead cross-functional teams to extend TSI's monitoring system across our semiconductor products
  • Growth and M&A - evaluate adjacent and emerging segments in semiconductor and advanced-electronics manufacturing, identify partners and acquisition targets, and build the business cases (revenue potential, market risk, ROI) behind them
  • Go-to-market - develop training on value propositions and best practices for Sales, Channel Partners, and End Users, and lead GTM planning, including launches, campaigns, targeting, and messaging, with Marketing Communications and downstream Product Management
  • Annual strategic planning - translate semiconductor drivers (fab roadmaps, node transitions, competitive trends) into NPD strategy and project priorities that keep contamination detection ahead of the most advanced nodes
  • Cross-functional influence - build relationships across the global organization to influence without direct authority, partner with Finance on pricing models, and support lead-generating multi-media programs
  • Market intelligence - collect and share the data that drives product decisions: win/loss analysis, pricing benchmarks, enhancement requests, market research, customer satisfaction, emerging applications, and technology developments
  • Life cycle management - make ROI-based calls on product continuation, investment priority, and end-of-life, and provide demand forecasts to Operations to balance service levels, working capital, and capacity

What Do You Need?
Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering/Science, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive product management experience, including direct P&L ownership
  • Semiconductor, microelectronics, or electronics manufacturing market experience
  • Track record of building long-term strategy and business cases, with an ability to build business-model innovation around outcome-based value
  • Ability to read markets and customers well enough to spot the unmet need, before it becomes obvious, moving with a sense of urgency and bias for action, over endless analysis
  • Experience collaborating with and influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders, fostering alignment and elevating team thinking, without necessarily having direct authority to rely on

Desired

  • MBA
  • International B2B marketing or product management experience
  • Experience monetizing software and services through evolving models - subscription, consumption, outcome-based pricing
  • Experience leading a transition from stand-alone products to integrated systems
  • Adjacent pharmaceutical or cleanroom manufacturing experience

Travel

Travel up to 25%, including international, to support activities such as customer visits, VOC efforts, training, and new product launches.
