Senior Project Manager - Utility Construction

Location: Minnesota

In this role, you will lead complex utility infrastructure projects throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, overseeing the planning, design, permitting, construction, and closeout of underground and overhead utility systems. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, financial accountability, and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects while building lasting relationships with customers and stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, developers, municipalities, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Lead the complete project lifecycle, including estimating support, planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, closeout, and final restoration.
  • Manage multiple utility construction projects simultaneously while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Coordinate engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, and field operations to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review and interpret construction documents, including electrical one-line diagrams, civil, mechanical, and utility drawings.
  • Lead project meetings, design reviews, and customer status meetings while providing clear communication to all stakeholders.
  • Partner with estimating teams to develop competitive project estimates, scopes of work, and pricing strategies.
  • Secure and manage permits, easements, and regulatory approvals while ensuring compliance with customer, municipal, state, and federal requirements.
  • Monitor project costs, productivity, and forecasting to ensure projects remain within budget and contractual requirements.
  • Identify project risks early and develop solutions that minimize impacts to schedule, budget, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and provide regular production and financial reporting.
  • Lead, mentor and support project team members while promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Five or more years of project management experience within the utility construction industry.
  • Extensive experience managing underground and/or overhead electric or natural gas utility infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and customer relationships.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience navigating utility permitting and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping software is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin as needed.
