Job description

Solid Rock Recruiting:Opening Doors to Awesome Opportunities

Commercial Estimator – Division 8 (Doors, Frames & Hardware)
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Preferred) | Midwest Remote Considered

Overview

A growing, well-established commercial doors, frames, and hardware distributor is seeking a Commercial Estimator to support continued expansion.

This is not a traditional back-office estimating role. This individual will play a key part in customer engagement, opportunity identification, and helping convert estimates into awarded work, while still owning the full estimating process.

If you enjoy both the technical side of estimating and being involved in the front-end of projects, this role offers strong visibility and impact on overall business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Technical Execution

  • Review architectural drawings and specifications for Division 8 projects
  • Perform takeoffs and develop accurate, competitive estimates
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to improve scope and margins
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, fire/life safety, ADA, and access control requirements

Customer Engagement & Pipeline Development

  • Communicate directly with contractors, architects, and end users
  • Follow up on bids, clarify scope, and support closing awarded projects
  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers
  • Identify and help develop new bid opportunities within target accounts

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with internal sales, purchasing, and project management teams
  • Coordinate with vendors for pricing, product selection, and availability

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Division 8 estimating or project management
  • Strong understanding of commercial doors, frames, and hardware systems
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Comsense, Avaware, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF tools
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • DHI certifications (AHC, CDC, EHC, AOC) preferred

What They’re Looking For
  • A technical estimator who can independently run projects from takeoff through bid
  • Someone who enjoys interacting with customers—not just working behind the scenes
  • A proactive, growth-minded individual who takes ownership of their work
  • A team-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment

Location Notes
  • Preference for candidates within ~2 hours of Indianapolis for occasional site visits
  • Open to strong Midwest-based remote candidates
