About the Role

MWH is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager - Commercial to support the team in controls, contracts, coordination and construction of critical water/wastewater treatment plants and other advanced water infrastructure projects for both municipal and industrial clients (including advanced technology sector clients) based out of the Portland, OR or Seattle, WA metropolitan areas. Projects may be either integrated project delivery such as CMAR, CMGC/GCCM, Design-Build or traditional Design-Bid-Build and range in size from $20M-$1.5B dollars in size. This position is accountable for commercial aspects of the project that may include contracts, project controls, risk, legal and change management. The Assistant PM Commercial must ensure the project finance reporting is accurate, contracts and change orders are in compliance with company standards and contract documents, risk is properly allocated and tracked and corporate legal is engaged when necessary.

Essential Functions

  • Contracts Ensure project procedures are compliant with Prime Contract and Subcontracts/Purchase Agreements. Understand how terms and conditions flow down from the Prime Contract through Subcontracts/Purchase Agreements and assess residual risk left over from buyout. Manage compliance with the contract documents and company standard operating procedures.
  • Change Management - Coordinate with PMs and Superintendents to review and evaluate proposed change orders against the contract documents and to assess the validity of the proposed cost estimates for the work. Manage the development of change order requests/proposals for changed/extra work requested by the Owner. Manage the change management process from start to finish ensuring that procedures mitigate risk between MWH and the Owner. Ensure that project finance reporting accurately reflects change and risk on the project.
  • Project Correspondence Coordinate with Project Engineering Team and Trade Package Managers to write letters and official correspondence to Subcontractors, Suppliers and Owner.
  • Governance Ensure all project decisions are being made in compliance with the Management Authority Matrix and lead in obtaining necessary approvals before actions are taken.
  • Risk Management Lead meetings to review project risk log and manage the log for monthly reporting the Project Management Dashboard. Ensure that all items are either tracked in the risk log or in CMiC.
  • Project Controls Ensure project controls are implemented, trained and executed according to company policies and procedures. Review project budgets, cashflow projections and forecasts. Work with eh project team to analyze, assess and implement a claims prevention and mitigation policy in support of the corporate Risk Management Team.
  • Legal Conduct analyses of issues on the project and engage corporate legal when the MAM dictates or whenever necessary to mitigate risk on the project.
  • Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science or higher university degree in engineering, construction management or a related degree. An equivalent combination of experience, skills and training may be substituted.
  • 4+ years of experience in project engineering, site superintendent or trade package management specifically in heavy civil, structural or buildings construction.
  • 3+ years of experience as an assistant project manager or equivalent role on a heavy civil, structural or buildings construction project.
  • 3+ years of experience being responsible for reporting and managing profit/loss on a construction project
  • Familiarity with preparing contract scoping documents, reading contract drawings and specifications, and basic construction principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy civil, structural or buildings construction experience of water retaining structures, public water/wastewater infrastructure, or similar industries.
  • On-site construction project engineering/management experience
  • Contracts, risk, or finance experience with a construction company
  • Experience negotiating and executing subcontract/purchase agreements and change orders and client change orders
  • Hands-on knowledge of CMiC and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)

Compensation

  • The Anticipated budgeted salary for the position is at $130,000 - $150,000 a year, based on experience.
