What role you will play in our team

Portfolio Project Engineers provide leadership ensuring successful completion of the assigned project(s). They coordinate with various stakeholders and are expected to leverage the functional expertise of the organization (e.g. cost, schedule & controls engineers, SSHE professionals, etc.) to ensure the projects meet all safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

What you will do

  • Engage in execution plans, including contracting/procurement strategies development and implementation
  • Identify project issues and execute/steward appropriate actions to resolution, including formal change management
  • Support the transition between project stages from a selected concept, through construction and project closeout, while ensuring compliance with Imperial’s standards and processes
  • Support procurement activities, including in some cases materials requisitioning, expediting, and logistics
  • Responsible for contractor administration activities
  • Responsible for project close-out and turnover to site
  • Accountable for performance of project and alignment with local and global processes
  • When projects are in construction, Project Engineers may be expected to travel to field sites (Kearl Oil Sands mine, Cold Lake thermal in-situ, or any of our refineries in Edmonton, Sarnia and Nanticoke), for tasks such as (non-exhaustive list): brownfield verification, laser scanning, constructability, construction & procurement support, field progress reviews, site issues management, PSSR's, etc.

The Project Management Engineer - Associate is an entry position into the Project Management Job Group and provides engineers with the opportunity to develop broad foundational Project Management skills. Early Project Management Engineer assignments may be on larger Cat III standalone projects under a PM or Lead PE, or on multiple small projects with low complexity and technical guidance from more senior Project Engineers

- Participate in site safety programs, supporting effective implementation of the Project Safety Plan and ensuring SSH&E expectations are met during execution
Project Planning and Execution Support
- Provide support for cost, schedule, and controls deliverables, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project objectives
- Contribute execution input during early project development, supporting preparation of key deliverables
- Assist in developing the Project Plan, SSH&E Plan, and contracting / procurement strategies, and support implementation during execution
Performance Monitoring
- Monitor and appraise contractor execution against plans and specifications, and collaborate on improvement plans to close performance gaps
- Track project, functional, and business discipline support activities, ensuring timely completion of reviews, resolution of technical queries, and required actions
