Job description

Pennoni is hiring! In particular, we are looking for a Senior Surveyor to contribute to our projects on a full-time, direct basis in the Milton, DE area.

The Senior Survey Technician leads office-based survey production, including processing and analyzing field data and preparing accurate survey deliverables. This role coordinates with project managers, survey crews, and CAD staff to resolve data issues, maintain standards, and support on-time project delivery. The Senior Survey Technician performs quality control on survey documentation, mentors junior staff, and helps ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process and adjust survey field data; perform computations and analysis to generate accurate surfaces, alignments, and coordinate geometry as required.
  • Perform QA/QC on calculations, linework, and survey deliverables; troubleshoot discrepancies and coordinate corrections with field and CAD staff.
  • Help establish and maintain office production standards, templates, and QA/QC checklists; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Lead internal reviews of survey deliverables prior to submission; coordinate markups, revisions, and final document readiness with the project team.
  • Coordinate with project managers and survey crews to confirm scope, required deliverables, schedules, and data needs; communicate processing questions and constraints early.
  • Prepare, review, and support production of survey drawings, plats, exhibits, and reports to meet project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Maintain organized project files and survey records (control, metadata, notes, and processing logs) to support traceability and efficient review.
  • Support project planning by estimating office processing effort, identifying software/equipment needs, and recommending efficient workflows and standards.

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in surveying, with expertise in field and office surveying tasks.
  • Proficiency with common survey data processing and CAD platforms used to produce survey deliverables (e.g., Leica Infinity and AutoCAD Civil 3D, or comparable software).
  • Valid driver's license; occasional site visits or field support may be required based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of relevant Surveying training; active Survey credentials in DE (e.g.: completing PS and/or FS exams to qualify for PLS or Surveying Intern certification) is preferred.
  • Management and/or Project Management experience is preferred.
  • Proven expertise with modern Survey methods, best practices, and technologies.
  • Proficiency with relevant technologies / tools (e.g.: CADD, Total Stations, HDLS, GIS, etc.); experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, RTS (Robotic Total Stations), GPS, and Leica Geosystems HW & SW is preferred (additional exposure to MicroStation, Bentley OpenRoads, and/or Faro High-Definition Laser Scanning equipment is a plus!).
  • Proficiency on all standard Microsoft Office software applications, especially with MS-Excel.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to work in a self-motivated manner while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of surveying principles and methods; strong working knowledge of CAD and survey production workflows.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations, industry standards, and safety guidelines related to surveying.
  • Knowledge of best practices in survey data processing, documentation, file management, and quality control.
  • Advanced proficiency with survey data processing software and coordinate geometry (such as Leica Infinity and comparable platforms) and CAD-based drafting/annotation workflows (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and comparable tools).
  • Working knowledge of Leica survey equipment and data workflows (e.g., total stations/GNSS, controllers, downloads, file formats) sufficient to support processing, troubleshooting, and coordination with field staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proficiency using CAD to review, mark up, and support production of survey drawings.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, provide constructive feedback, and mentor team members in a collaborative environment.
