Location: Maple Grove, MN - Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 day remote)
Travel: MN, WI, MI, ND, SD

Position Overview
Our Utility client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support their Transmission Substation Field Engineering organization through their construction capital portfolio. This role focuses on construction readiness, drawing review, material verification, field inspections, and support of substation construction projects across the 5-state territory. A formal engineering degree or PE is not required; field experience is highly valued.

Ensures projects are construction-ready, materials are accurate and available, safety expectations are met, and field execution proceeds efficiently.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret substation construction drawings and packages.
  • Validate material lists against engineering drawings.
  • Perform QA/QC checks before crew mobilization.
  • Coordinate with engineering and construction teams.
  • Conduct field visits approximately two days per week.
  • Verify field conditions and project progress.
  • Support crews by identifying constructability concerns.
  • Document findings and communicate updates.
  • Promote and uphold client's safety standards.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of utility, transmission, or substation field experience.
  • Experience as a General Foreman, Field Engineer, Project Engineer, Superintendent, or similar role.
  • Ability to read and interpret substation drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of material lists and construction packages.
  • Strong substation construction knowledge.
  • Valid driver license and ability to travel across five states.
  • Strong commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Utility transmission/substation experience.
  • Construction QA/QC experience.
  • Project coordination or PM experience.
  • Experience in utilities industry.

Work Environment
  • Hybrid schedule based in Maple Grove, MN.
  • Travel throughout MN, WI, MI, ND, and SD.
  • Field work in varying weather conditions.
  • Field days may count toward office requirements.
