Description
SCOPE: The Development Intern supports the Development Department in advancing affordable housing initiatives from early planning through project execution. This position provides valuable exposure to real estate development, project management, housing policy, and financial analysis while assisting staff in delivering safe, quality, and affordable housing solutions that create value for residents and the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required.
• Assist Development Project Supervisor in tracking project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of development activities.
• Support coordination between internal departments, including Finance, Construction, Property Management, and external stakeholders through professional and respectful communication.
• Participate in project meetings and accurately document key discussions, action items, and follow-up activities.
• Demonstrate initiative by identifying opportunities to improve project organization, efficiency, and communication.
• Conduct research on housing trends, demographic data, funding programs, market conditions, and development opportunities.
• Analyze data with accuracy and attention to detail to support project feasibility studies, planning decisions, and policy considerations.
• Assist in gathering due diligence materials and background information for prospective development opportunities.
• Present research findings in a clear, professional, and organized manner that supports informed decision-making.
• Prepare reports, memoranda, presentations, and supporting materials for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
• Compile, organize, and maintain project documentation with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and accountability.
• Assist with tracking development-related data and performance metrics to support departmental goals and objectives.
• Ensure records are maintained in accordance with agency policies and established procedures.
• Provide administrative support to the Development team, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and coordinating project activities.
• Organize and maintain project files, electronic records, and reporting systems in a timely and professional manner.
• Track and submit weekly timecards accurately and within established deadlines.
• Handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
• Attend internal and external meetings, workshops, and training opportunities to gain exposure to affordable housing development and real estate processes.
• Support cross-functional collaboration efforts to better understand the full lifecycle of affordable housing development projects.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continuously improve knowledge and skills.
• Contribute creative ideas and innovative approaches that support departmental and agency objectives.
• Perform additional tasks as requested.

• Prior internship experience, coursework, or demonstrated interest in real estate, finance, public policy, community development, or affordable housing is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment. Requires prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and communication via telephone, virtual platforms, and email. Occasional attendance at project sites, community meetings, development properties, and agency events may be required. May require occasional local travel to development-related meetings and project locations.
OTHER: The candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in state of residence and maintain an insurable driving record under the terms and conditions of the CMHA auto liability policy. The candidate may have no more than 6 accumulated points in 3 consecutive years.
