Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a remote Project Developer in Key Accounts. As a Project Developer, you will support one of the most dynamic and fast-growing areas of the business: Small Commercial vertical accounts within Key Accounts.

In this role, you will work with internal teams, Account Managers, independent service providers, and national owner-direct customers to identify, develop, and help sell profitable, executable projects centered on digital solutions, service offerings, and turnkey project delivery. This includes scope of work development, project estimating, solution design support, subcontractor coordination, and proposal development.

The Project Developer plays a critical role in helping Account Managers uncover customer needs, shape practical and scalable solutions, and position Trane as a trusted long-term partner. This role requires a blend of technical aptitude, business acumen, project development discipline, and strong communication skills to support growth across strategic customer accounts and expand the Trane brand through an ongoing partnership cycle.

The Project Developer is responsible for supporting project acquisition and development efforts from early opportunity identification through project handoff, ensuring solutions are aligned with customer expectations, operational requirements, and business objectives.

What you will do

  • Develop small commercial HVAC, controls, connected building, digital, service, and turnkey solutions using Trane equipment, controls, and services, along with other complementary systems as needed.

  • Partner with Account Managers to identify and develop profitable, executable opportunities that support customer goals and drive business growth across national owner-direct accounts.

  • Assist in project scoping, concept development, solution validation, and preliminary design to support sales strategy and customer engagement.

  • Support Account Managers in developing project budgets, preparing subcontractor and independent service provider request for quotations (RFQs), and defining scope statements, schedules, specifications, and milestone dates.

  • Coordinate with independent service providers and internal stakeholders to develop executable project plans and ensure alignment on delivery expectations.

  • Provide technical and solution-development support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation in strategic account planning and job acquisition efforts.

  • Manage design support activities, including conceptual site plans and preliminary engineering documents, through turnover to execution teams as required.

  • Help develop and refine processes that improve project development effectiveness across digital, service, and turnkey offerings within Key Accounts Small Commercial.

  • Support secured customers from project development through transition to operations or execution teams.

  • Assist in driving customer satisfaction, account growth, and long-term relationship development that reinforces the Trane brand.

  • Support an infinite partnership approach by helping create repeatable value for customers through ongoing service, modernization, digital expansion, and turnkey project opportunities.

  • Some travel required; other duties as assigned.

What you will bring

  • Four-year degree in Engineering, Technical field, Business, or related field required.

  • Experience supporting project development, project management, service solutions, turnkey delivery, or construction-related sales support.

  • Ability to identify customer needs and help translate them into practical, profitable, and executable solutions.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, building systems, and the building construction industry.

  • Understanding of construction methods and practices, with the ability to communicate with and coordinate subcontractors and independent service providers to obtain critical proposal and execution information.

  • Ability to audit existing mechanical and building systems and recommend solutions that improve performance, reliability, serviceability, and customer outcomes.

  • Strong estimating, scoping, and proposal support capabilities.

  • Ability to develop and write HVAC system-level sequence of operations and other system-level control requirements is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Visio, AutoCAD, and/or other design software; familiarity with digital platforms and connected building technologies is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, with the ability to work across internal teams, external providers, and customer organizations.

  • Ability to work regularly and dependably while functioning effectively in a team environment.

  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours or weekends as required, including some travel with occasional overnight stays.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
