Project Delivery Manager information

What is a project delivery manager?

Project Delivery Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful completion of projects within an organization. They coordinate teams, manage resources, monitor project progress, and ensure that deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Their role often involves communicating with stakeholders, identifying and mitigating risks, and making sure project objectives align with business goals. Project Delivery Managers bridge the gap between project teams and upper management to ensure smooth project delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project delivery manager?

To thrive as a Project Delivery Manager, you need strong project management skills, a solid understanding of delivery methodologies, and experience with budget and resource planning—typically supported by a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (like MS Project, Jira, or Asana) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are commonly required. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities help foster team alignment and stakeholder engagement. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the satisfaction of clients and stakeholders.

What are some common challenges faced by project delivery managers and how can they be effectively addressed?

Project Delivery Managers often encounter challenges such as managing shifting client expectations, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget. Effective communication, proactive risk management, and setting clear milestones are key strategies to address these issues. Additionally, fostering a collaborative environment and regularly updating stakeholders help prevent misunderstandings and keep projects aligned with business goals.

Job description

About Volta

Volta is the category-defining, fully vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform – from capital to clusters to software, under a founder-led enterprise. Our mission is The Utility of Compute: AI infrastructure as dependable and available as electricity, for every organization that needs it. Launched with a $10B strategic partnership with one of the leading frontier AI labs, a Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund, Volta is building the infrastructure layer of the AI era from the ground up. We are 100+ people across London, Palo Alto, and New York, with rapid growth expectations to hundreds.

About The Role

The Delivery Lead sits inside the embedded project team, working directly to the Project Delivery Manager to keep day-to-day delivery moving across every discipline — design, procurement, execution, safety, quality, and controls. Where the Project Delivery Manager owns overall accountability for the project, the Delivery Lead owns the coordination that keeps it running smoothly week to week.

You will track progress across workstreams, surface issues before they become blockers, and make sure the project's various leads are pulling in the same direction against the same plan. This is a hands-on coordination role for someone who thrives on keeping complex projects organized and moving.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Coordinate day-to-day delivery activities across design, procurement, execution, safety, quality and controls workstreams

  • Track progress against the project plan and flag emerging risks or delays early

  • Run regular cross-discipline coordination meetings and follow up on actions

  • Support the Project Delivery Manager with day-to-day decision-making and problem-solving

  • Maintain clear, up-to-date project documentation and status reporting

  • Help resolve interface issues between disciplines before they affect schedule or cost

  • Support readiness planning ahead of key milestones and stage gates

  • Assist with onboarding new team members and contractors into project processes

  • Escalate significant issues to the Project Delivery Manager with clear context and options

What You Bring
  • Experience coordinating delivery on data center or complex capital projects

  • Strong organizational skills, comfortable tracking multiple workstreams in parallel

  • Good judgment on when to resolve an issue directly versus **escalate**

  • Clear communication skills, able to keep multiple stakeholders aligned

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on project environment

  • Willingness to be based on-site as required by the project

Nice to Have
  • Experience specifically on data center or MEP-heavy construction projects

  • Familiarity with project controls tools and reporting practices

  • Background progressing toward a Project Delivery Manager role
