Job Title: Project Manager – Water/Wastewater Construction

Job Description

This long-term Project Manager role oversees a complex, $40M, multi-year rehabilitation and expansion project at a wastewater treatment facility near Yuma, Arizona. You will lead all aspects of project delivery—from planning and staffing through financial performance and stakeholder communication—ensuring the project is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This position offers significant responsibility, early advancement potential, and the stability of a strong project backlog, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall management of all project activities and performance standards in alignment with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to field teams, including Superintendents, Project Engineers, and Project Assistants, to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
  • Own full profit and loss responsibility for the project, monitoring financial performance and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Manage company-owned and rental equipment resources to support efficient and cost-effective field operations.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust detailed two-week work schedules to coordinate construction activities and meet milestones.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee project staffing, including interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching team members to maximize performance.
  • Review and select appropriate construction methods and practices, particularly for water and wastewater plant construction.
  • Lead communications with the owner, owner’s representatives, and engineers, ensuring timely information flow and effective collaboration.
  • Interpret and address disputes, changed conditions, and project issues, providing clear guidance and resolutions.
  • Provide input to and review the CPM (Critical Path Method) construction schedule to ensure realistic sequencing and resource allocation.
  • Review weekly timecards and job cost reports to track productivity, costs, and financial performance.
  • Approve and review all jobsite purchases, ensuring alignment with budget and project requirements.
  • Coordinate activities among subcontractors and suppliers to maintain workflow, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Lead and enforce jobsite safety policies and procedures, fostering a strong safety culture on an active treatment plant site.
  • Manage all financial aspects of the project, including forecasting, cost control, and reporting.
  • Support and/or participate in bidding activities for assigned projects, providing constructability and cost input.
  • Assist with field labor relations as needed to maintain a productive and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain excellent documentation, including project records, reports, correspondence, and change documentation.
  • Deliver high levels of customer service and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with all project stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5+ years of direct Project Manager experience in the construction industry focused on water and/or wastewater projects.
  • Proven experience supporting or managing several relevant construction projects in the $20M–$100M+ range.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and schedules effectively, with a track record of on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Strong communication skills with proven leadership ability in managing field teams and project stakeholders.
  • Excellent documentation skills, including the ability to maintain accurate, organized project records and reports.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using scheduling software and the internet for project coordination and communication.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret project data, costs, and schedules and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience managing the construction of multi-million-dollar water, wastewater, or industrial plants is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Expereince in mechanical, facilities, or civil engineering environments is beneficial.
  • Experience with complex plant rehabilitation and expansion projects, including work on active treatment facilities.
  • Ability to lead teams performing self-performed concrete, mechanical, and millwright scopes of work.
  • Comfort working in a highly detailed, intricate project environment with multiple phases and system changeovers.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role at a wastewater treatment plant in San Luis, Arizona, approximately 20 minutes outside Yuma, overseeing a $40M, two-year rehabilitation and expansion project transitioning from SVR to MVR processes. The project includes self-performed concrete, mechanical, and millwright work within an active, fully operational treatment plant, where portions of the facility will be taken offline in phases, creating a highly intricate construction environment. The work schedule is to be determined, with a potential four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday) under consideration. The role operates in a field-based, construction-site setting that requires regular presence on the jobsite and close coordination with plant operations. Relocation support is available, including enhanced pay considerations and housing coverage. The organization maintains a presence in Arizona, California, and Colorado but is open to candidates based in other states who are willing to work onsite for the duration of the project. A professional, safety-focused work culture is emphasized, with appropriate site-appropriate attire and personal protective equipment expected in accordance with construction and plant safety standards.
