Job description

Description
We are seeking a Project Manager to lead delivery of defined projects from initiation through closeout. You will own day-to-day execution for one or more projects, translating goals into clear scope, milestones, and success criteria, and ensuring teams deliver on-time and on-scope.
You will work with team leads and stakeholders (often across functions) to coordinate schedules and resources, manage dependencies, and keep work unblocked within a defined workstream. You will escalate risks, scope changes, and resourcing conflicts early - partnering with Senior Project Managers and Program Managers when decisions require broader trade-offs.
This role requires clear, consistent communication and documentation: you will produce concise status reporting, maintain project artifacts (e.g., charter, RAID, decision log, schedules), and follow PMO standards for traceability and change control. You will use modern project tooling (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet, SharePoint, Excel) and may leverage AI-assisted workflows (e.g., meeting note summaries, first-draft status narratives) where appropriate—validating outputs and respecting confidentiality and IP sensitivity.

Please include a cover letter with your resume (in one file) describing how you would be a great fit at Photonic and what attributes you could bring to our growing team.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
  • Build and maintain project plans for assigned projects (scope, schedule, milestones, dependencies) and keep stakeholders aligned on priorities and trade-offs.
  • Facilitate core project cadence (kickoffs, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives) for assigned projects and ensure decisions and action items are documented and followed through.
  • Track execution against commitments for assigned projects; proactively surface risks, issues, and blockers and drive mitigation and escalation as needed.
  • Coordinate tasking and timelines with functional leads for your assigned projects; clarify deliverables, owners, and due dates, and surface resourcing gaps for resolution.
  • Maintain project artifacts for assigned projects (charter, RACI, RAID log, schedules, meeting notes, status reports) in shared systems.
  • Provide clear weekly status reporting for assigned projects, including progress, next steps, risks, budget/timeline impacts, and decisions required.
  • Support continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned from assigned projects and contributing to standard project processes and templates.

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–6+ years of experience managing projects in a cross-functional environment (R&D, engineering, operations, or product preferred).
  • Working knowledge of project management fundamentals (scope, schedule, cost, risk, change control) and common artifacts (RAID, RACI, project charter).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; able to drive alignment and influence without authority.
  • Comfort working with project tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet, SharePoint, Excel) and building simple dashboards/status reports.
  • PMP, CAPM, or Agile/Scrum training is an asset.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.

WHY YOU SHOULD WORK WITH US
  • Work closely with some of the brightest innovators in quantum technologies to drive breakthroughs that redefine computing
  • Enjoy a fast-paced and fun environment where you can try new things while solving innovative challenges every day
  • Inclusive company culture that values collaboration
  • Regular social events and fun activities keep our global team connected
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, stock options, and relocation assistance for global talent
  • Comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, life, long term disability, an employee assistance program, parental leave top-ups, and a flexible spending account

The description above is what we think an ideal candidate would look like for this role. At Photonic, we understand that everyone has a different work and life journey. If you feel your experience is close to what we've described, but you might not meet all the requirements, please still apply! All roles listed are for current vacancies. While artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to assist in reviewing applicant profiles, they do not determine candidate outcomes. Our hiring decisions are made by people, not algorithms. We are committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We embrace and encourage our employees’ differences, knowing that these very differences inspire innovation and build better teams. If there are any accommodations our team can make throughout our hiring process, please let us know.
