Job description

Assistant Project Manager - Buildings Location: Hamilton / Stoney Creek, ON Salary: $70,000-$80,000 Sector: Building Construction / General Contracting A well-established Southern Ontario construction company is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join its buildings team. This is a strong opportunity for someone who has been building their construction coordination or assistant project management experience and is ready to take on more responsibility across project scheduling, documentation, tracking, and day-to-day project execution. The company has a long-standing presence in the Ontario construction market and delivers a range of building projects across commercial, institutional, residential, and industrial sectors.

The environment is practical, hands-on, and close to the field, making this a good fit for someone who wants real project exposure rather than a narrow administrative role. Why This Opportunity May Be Good for You This role offers the chance to work with an established builder where you can gain direct exposure to active projects, site teams, subcontractors, consultants, and senior project leadership. You will be involved in the details that keep projects moving: schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, cost updates, deficiencies, closeout documentation, and project tracking.

For someone working toward a full Project Manager role, this is a good step into broader responsibility. You will have the opportunity to strengthen your construction knowledge, improve your coordination skills, and build confidence managing multiple moving parts on building projects. What You Will Be Doing As Assistant Project Manager, you will support Project Managers and site teams with the successful delivery of building construction projects from early project setup through closeout.

Responsibilities will include: Supporting Project Managers with daily project coordination and administration Assisting with project schedules, look-ahead planning, milestone tracking, and progress updates Maintaining project tracking logs, action lists, reports, and documentation Coordinating with Site Superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients Tracking RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, deficiencies, and closeout items Assisting with procurement, tendering support, subcontractor follow-up, and pricing documentation Helping monitor project progress against schedule, budget, and scope Preparing meeting minutes, project updates, and action-item lists Supporting change management, cost tracking, and project reporting Reviewing drawings, specifications, and project documents for coordination purposes Helping ensure project files are accurate, current, and properly organized Working with site and office teams to identify issues early and keep work moving What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have experience in construction coordination, project administration, or assistant project management, ideally within commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-residential, or general building construction. You should be organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable communicating with both office and field teams. Ideal qualifications include: 2+ years of experience in construction project coordination, assistant project management, or a similar role Exposure to building construction projects Experience with project documentation, schedules, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout tracking Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction documents Strong organization and follow-up skills Clear communication skills with site teams, subcontractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, architecture, building science, or a related field is an asset Compensation Transparency The expected compensation range for this role is $70,000-$80,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Additional compensation and benefits information, including any applicable benefits, vehicle allowance, or other forms of compensation, will be discussed during the hiring process where applicable. Where applicable, all non-discretionary compensation such as bonuses, commissions, allowances, and other guaranteed forms of pay will be reviewed with candidates during the hiring process. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Artificial intelligence (AI) is not used to screen, assess, or make hiring decisions for this role.

All applications are reviewed and evaluated by our recruitment team. Vacancy Status This posting represents a current vacancy. Additional Notes Compensation discussions and negotiation guidance will be provided during the hiring process as appropriate.

Who This Role Suits This role would suit someone who wants to grow beyond basic project administration and become more involved in real construction delivery. It may be a good fit if you: Want to grow into a Project Manager role Like being close to both the office and the field Enjoy organizing information and keeping projects on track Are comfortable following up with trades, consultants, and internal teams Want exposure to a variety of building construction projects Prefer a hands-on construction environment over a heavily corporate structure How to Apply Please apply with a copy of your resume. Suitable candidates will be contacted for a confidential discussion.
